2.3 Batteries and solutions for energy distribution Matra provides a solution to energy management for electric two-wheelers with the BAT’LIB® system with a complete range of scooters, a new generation of removable Lithium HD (high density) batteries and a self-service, powerful, secure and easy to use charging station. Thanks to the BAT’LIB® system, the station permanently charges the removable batteries. When you get back from a trip and the battery is run down, the user replaces the “empty” battery with a “full” one in a few seconds and can get straight back on the bike ready to go somewhere else. Thus, using an electric vehicle is free of all constraints concerning battery life and charge time during which a two-wheeler would usually not be able to move. The station, connected to the mains, contains safe compartments (up to 10 per station), each of which contains a scooter battery. Without any intervention, the internal management system charges the batteries and follows the life cycle of each of them. Access to a free space is granted with a personal badge which opens up the compartment in question. Once the dead battery is plugged in and the compartment is closed, charging begins and the station automatically opens up another compartment providing access to a fully-charged battery. This simple solution offered by Matra is a customized answer for deliveries companies in the city and for vehicle leasers, especially in leisure parks and resorts. It is also perfectly adapted to the needs of local communities and companies for their Urban Development Plan and Business Moving Plan. The charging station can be set up in a few moments using a 16 or 32 Amp plug and does not require any infrastructure modifications. Offered in the form of a Neighborhood Electric Transport Solution, incorporating the station, electric scooters and batteries, BAT’LIB® is adjustable and built for the needs of each user. After the self-service car and bike services, with BAT’LIB®, Matra provides a genuine operating system to help broaden the use of electric scooters and eliminate the fear of running out of power. The BAT’LIB® charging station, associated with Matra scooters with removable batteries, makes the intensive use of electric vehicles possible without having an impact on the price for the consumer. More robust and economical than thermal energy, with less maintenance and lower insurance costs, the electric scooter is becoming a high-performance reality. HD Battery - Nanotechnology at the service of performance and battery service Compact and light, the Matra HD battery offers as much as 50% extra battery life when compared with a normal battery of the same size. With high-performance and resistance, it is also one of the safest on the market with an integrated cooling system ensured by “passive safety” technology.

The technology, developed with the company AllCell Technologies (USA – www.allcelltech.com) provides massive energy density while ensuring safety and prolonging the lifespan of cells. Having already been applied to the removable batteries of the e-MO electric scooter range as part of the Bat’Lib program, it increases the battery capacity to beyond 1kWh for the same volume (weight 7.9 kg) and ensures 1,800 charge cycles with no effect on the battery life while remaining safe: it is like squaring the circle in the battery world! Two levels of integrated safety: Active safety is guaranteed by the BMS (Battery Management System) encased inside the battery. It controls the cell charging and loss of charge, the cell balance and even takes them out of the charging circuit if need be.

Passive safety is ensured by the material that surrounds the cells, PCM (Phase Change Material), which works like a cooling circuit. The nanoparticles which comprise this material absorb the gaps in temperature and maintain a very high level of energy density with no risk of heating. The PCM successfully passed the ULV04 test, which is among the most demanding concerning flammability. By mastering this avant-garde technology, Matra is able to comply with international transportation regulations dictated by the UN IATA Certification, which have become a sizeable constraint for all electric vehicles. These HD batteries for scooters, as well as other batteries for the European light electric vehicle market, will be produced in France by Matra on a new assembly line as part of an exclusive cooperation agreement with the company AllCell Technologies. As a liter of unleaded petrol has just risen in price beyond the symbolic 2 euro mark, electric vehicles are becoming increasingly attractive. Often presented as the weak link of electric solutions, the battery, with Matra HD specification, has become the central argument in Matra’s solutions for developing light electric vehicles. 3 – MATRA, an Important French Brand Distributed through a network of more than 400 specialised retailers in France, Matra is extending its presence throughout Europe. In 2012, the company is setting up a network of direct distribution with retailers in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Benelux.

and services with the support of its production site that has been in the heart of the Loire Valley region in

Romorantin (Loir-et-Cher, France) since 1964.
