She was a jewelry maker and textile designer who worked with traditional and non-traditional materials. She is one of the most well known textile artists and was the first designer to have a one person show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She used a loom to weave her own wall-hangings, curtains, bedspreads, and more. You will be creating your own loom like Anni Albers to create a scrap fabric wall hanging! • 8” x 8” cardboard sheet • Scrap fabric • Embroidery thread • Scissors • Tape Mark 1 inch borders on the top and bottom of your cardboard sheet. Using scissors, cut slits 1/2” apart into the 1” border. Cut your scrap fabric into 1/2” strips. Flip your cardboard around and remove the tape off of one end of the embroidery thread. Pull the thread through the weaving and off the cardboard, repeat- ing until your weaving is off of your loom. With embroidery thread, weave vertically through your loom. Leave a four inch tail on the beginning and end of the loom.Tape the ends down to the cardboard. Refer to photos for better understanding. Weave your fabric straps into your loom. When you need to change fabric scraps, weave a new piece where the old one ended off. Continue until the entire loom is filled. Weave the shorter end of the thread into your weaving. Tie the longer end onto the other side of the weaving to create a hanging!
