Have you wanted to explore the tradition of our Catholic faith? You are still welcome to join us on Wednesday nights to share faith and fellowship with one another. Each week we are gathering to discuss an excerpt from a religious book. The first book we are exploring is Early Christian Writings: The Apostolic Fathers (Penguin Classics). This book is a collection of ancient Christian writings dating before the year 200 A.D. By reading these writings, we glimpse what the early Christians thought and believed. Their writings use simple language and concepts, but they are rich in imagery, theology, and history. Our next gathering is this Wednesday, July 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the rectory meeting room. We will be discuss-ing the writings of Didache. Refreshments will be available. A complete schedule is on the bulletin board. Please join and explore the treasures of our faith.

Thank you for your generous support of the essential work of the Holy Father and his charitable acts through the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our contributions will be combined with those of our brothers and sisters around the world to help Pope Benedict reach out to those in need. Your generosity will help to cast Christ's’ peace upon the world.

Reflection from Father Ben:

The information superhighway has changed the way we communicate with one another. Years ago, letters were the only way people could com-municate with those separated by great distances. Eventually the tele-graph, the telephone, radio, televi-sion, cell phones, and the internet drastically altered the way we com-municate. Each mode of communication has its limita-tions as well as its benefits. I often wonder how the apos-tles would evangelize the world if they had the technology that we have today. Would Peter be twittering or posting on facebook the miracles that Jesus was performing? Would the speeches of Jesus be recorded and posted on youtube? There are a number of excellent websites full of Catholic resources that convey the rich heritage of our past all while using today’s technology. One of my class-mates in seminary was a technological genius and he al-ways sought to use any medium to get across the good news. Each of us must share this saving message with others. It does not matter if we use the internet or we proclaim the Gospel by our actions. The news is too im-portant to keep to ourselves. The message is something we never fully grasp, so we must constantly return to the life-giving springs of our faith.
