MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH DAY!

Sunday CelebrationNovember 15, 2015

When children have the opportunity to participate in giving, it helps them understand why we give and often sparks a life-long desire to share God’s love with others. It’s an amazing thing to watch and such a great path to set them on. Our Vacation Bible School students focused on two mission projects this year. They collected stuffed animals and small toys to send to children in Guatemala. They also collected funds to purchase bikes for children in residence at St. Matthew’s House. Using paper church banks they decorated in Arts and Crafts, the students collected $976.56 for the cause. These funds were used to purchase 12 bicycles, 4 scooters, and 10 helmets. With great joy, several of our youth delivered the bicycles, scooters, and helmets this week to St. Matthew’s House.

“Montreat was a place where everyone was friendly and truly wanted to hear what you had to say. For me it was a place where you didn’t have to worry about anyone judging you or disliking you. Through the week I got to hear the different stories that each person in my small group had. With those stories I grew closer to God because they helped me truly understand God’s intentions and purpose. I’m glad I went to Montreat because I had fun, met a lot of great people, and grew close to God.” - Sam Nunner

This past week 10 of our high school youth had the opportunity to travel to North Carolina and participate in a Montreat Youth Conference. The theme for the week was “This is Our Story.” Each day everyone experienced their personal stories, taking them on an incredible faith journey.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH REFLECT ON MONTREAT

“Montreat was an amazing experience. It was great to meet new people who had such similar stories. It was really cool to see a thousand kids get along and share with one another, even though we didn’t know the first thing about each other. A group of people who are different in a lot of ways but brought together with one commonality: to grow stronger in faith. It was the best, most eye-opening trip, I’ve ever been on. Not only am I thankful for the new friends I’ve made, but I’m thankful for the closer relationships our youth group has now, they are some of my best friends and I’m happy they are in my life.” - Alyssa Dehnz

On Wednesday the Middle School Youth loaded the bus with donations from the church and then headed over St. Matthews House to deliver the items and work in the kitchen. They worked alongside the kitchen crew preparing lunch for the volunteers and residents. They capped off a great day with bowling and playing games at church.

A special Thank You, to everyone who helped make this incredible trip possible for our high school youth.
