Great News on Funding for Newsletter We are really pleased to be able to report that no sooner had we published last month’s edition detailing the challenges of funding the Newsletter into the future, than we found out that NEWS (managers of the Marsham Compost site) would continue to fund it for a further year. That will take us up to November 2015. Although solving our immediate problem we must all continue to think about and explore possible ways of funding for the Newsletter to ensure a longer term future. On the subject of future editions, we are planning a special insert next month to remember the men of Marsham who died while serving their country during the First World War. Great News on Funding

for Newsletter We are really pleased to be able to report that no sooner had

we published last month’s edition detailing the challenges of

funding the Newsletter into the future, than we found out

that NEWS (managers of the Marsham Compost site) would

continue to fund it for a further year. That will take us up to

November 2015. Although solving our immediate problem

we must all continue to think about and explore possible

ways of funding for the Newsletter to ensure a longer term

future.

On the subject of future editions, we are planning a special

insert next month to remember the men of Marsham who

died while serving their country during the First World War.

As you can see on the thermometer on the left,

the Defibrillator Project is nearly there.

Can you help it reach the target?

Letters to the Editor

The letters in this section are published unedited and do not necessarily reflect the views of the

editing committee. We see the Village Newsletter as a channel for people in the village to air their

views – positive and negative.

Letter from the Village Hall

Committee

During August, the village hall’s gardener

found a sum of money which had probably

been dropped by someone attending the

village hall. If you think that might be you,

please contact Adrian on 734488.

Marsham Community Public Access

Defibrillator Project

Thank you this month to The Rotary Club of

Aylsham for their generous donation of £150. Our

total now stands at £1827 so we are getting very

close to our target of £2500.

Thank you also to all the children at Marsham

School for their wonderful posters which can be

seen at the Village Hall and the School. I’m sure you

will agree that they are very eye catching and

certainly help to support our defibrillator project.

The next part of the project is to adopt the BT

phone box outside the village hall where we are

planning to situate the defibrillator. The Village Hall

Committee is currently applying for listed buildings

consent, (the phone box is itself Grade II listed),

which is needed before proceeding further.

Our next fundraising event will be at the village hall

table top sale in October when we will be having a

chocolate tombola and a book table. If you would

like to make any donations to our tables please

bring them along on the day or pass them to any of

the project group.

If you can help with fundraising or would like to

make a donation please contact Nicola Hibberd on

01263 733557 or email [email protected].

Thank you

Late News – We have just been informed

that we will be receiving a cheque from the

Starting Handle Club’s Summer Show of

£300, taking us to £2127.

CATS

As there are quite a few stray cats about in

Marsham I'm making a plea to all cat owners

or would be cat owners to have their male

and female cats neutered to save unwanted

kittens being born.

A survey once discovered in 12yrs a single cat

and her kittens, because they were not

neutered, produced at least 1,403 kittens! So

you

can see it's the responsible thing to do. Plus

it's better for our furry friends.

Yours sincerely,

Linda Wooster

Marsham WI

In August, Graham and Barbara Davey came from Horsford to speak at our meeting. Mr

Davey described himself as a full-time antiques dealer and had brought with him a selection

of items from his collection of bygones. Mainly household items, many were familiar to us,

but we had to guess what some were. He had brought examples of kitchen ware and table

ware, e.g. wooden moulds for shaping pie cases, candle snuffers and wick trimmers, silver

grape scissors and many others which he described in an entertaining and enthusiastic

manner.

As usual we had received several invitations from neighbouring WIs; an evening with

Felthorpe, a flower arranging demonstration at Spixworth and an Autumn lunch with

entertainment at Cawston. Some of our members have accepted and we look forward to

hearing about these events at our next meeting.

In October we go to Erpingham WI for a joint meeting in their village hall; we always have

an enjoyable evening with them.

Our next meeting in Marsham village hall is on 26th

November when we hold our Annual

Meeting followed by learning a new simple craft item.

WI membership starts in January, new or returning members are welcome to join us, call me

on 01263 732606 or email at [email protected] if you would like any further

information

NEWS Operations Manager’s Monthly

Report

My name is Nigel Steward and I am

employed as Operations Manager for

NEWS. The Marsham In-Vessel

Composting (IVC) facility is one of the sites

under my direct responsibility and has

undergone many changes since I started

my employment with NEWS in January

2014.

I initiated the Marsham IVC Liaison Group

meetings which are now being held

quarterly as we believe that it is important

to understand local residents’ views on the

operation to enable us to address any

issues of concern. This group has a small

number of participants from the local

community and Parish Council together

with representatives from the

Environment Agency and the NEWS

management team.

In order to provide regular information

and a greater understanding of our

operations I have been afforded the

opportunity to compile a monthly update

report for this magazine, however, as

always we are happy to answer any

questions that residents may have

regarding the

regarding the operation via direct communication with the site or via e-mail.

Following the May 2014 Liaison Meeting, NEWS recognised and considered the views of the local residents and

decided to temporarily cease the processing of food waste. Since early June 2014 the food waste has been diverted

to a third-party processing facility in Milton Keynes. Furthermore, in order to undertake infrastructure improvement

work on site, NEWS ceased operations entirely and completely cleared the site of all food and green waste by the

end of July 2014.This improvement work is ongoing and NEWS is planning for the site to reopen as a ‘green waste

only’ facility towards the end of September 2014. NEWS is confident that this work will significantly improve the

odour control systems on site and, as such, we will continue to monitor emissions from the site and work closely

with the EA to improve the environmental impact of our operations on local residents.

More details will follow in next month’s report.
