NEW YORK METS (74-60) RHP Bartolo Colon (12-11, 4.42) vs. MIAMI MARLINS (56-79) LHP Brad Hand (4-4, 4.54) MARLINS PARK, MIAMI, FL Saturday, September 5, 2015 – 7:10 P.M. FISH BITES Miami looks to tie a season-long winning streak tonight as it goes for its fifth straight win when it meets the Mets at 7:10 p.m. The Fish will call on left-hander Brad Hand, who is 0-4 with a 3.50 ERA in 13 career appearances (five starts) against New York (0-3, 3.65 as starter). The Mets counter with right-hander Bartolo Colon, who is 6-3 with a 3.18 ERA in nine career starts against the Marlins. Miami is coming off a 4-2 road trip to Washington (1-2) and Atlanta (3-0), and will also host Milwaukee (September 7-9) and Washington (Sept. 11-13) on this homestand. Tonight’s National Anthem will be performed by USA Freedom Kids, and ceremonial first pitches will be thrown out by boxer Rocky Martinez, the current WBO Super Featherweight title holder, and Fish Family member Yoan Perez. VS. THE METS The Fish are 5-9 against New York this season; they dropped the first five games of the season series before rebounding with four straight wins, but are 1-4 since then. New York leads the all-time series, 194-177, but Miami has a slight edge of 93-92 at home (including three games in Puerto Rico in 2010). Miami also has a 19-17 lead at Marlins Park. LAST NIGHT The Marlins surrendered leads of 3-0 and 5-4 in an extra-innings affair with the Mets, but came out on top, 6-5, in walk- off fashion. Miami opened the scoring with three runs in the fourth inning. Martin Prado led off the inning with a double, and scored the first run on a Justin Bour single. J.T. Realmuto followed later with a sac fly, and Miguel Rojas pushed the third run across with a single. After the Mets took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, Miami stormed back in the bot- tom of the frame on an RBI single for Prado and a bases-loaded walk by Marcell Ozuna. The Mets tied it in the ninth to force extras, but Prado’s fifth hit of the game, an RBI double in the 11 th , scored Christian Yelich from first base for the win. Rookie Brian Ellington worked the 11 th and picked up his first career win. ELIAS SAYS... Martin Prado, who set a career high with five hits last night, also had a walk-off double in the 11 th inning. According to Elias, he was the first player with five hits and a walk-off RBI in the same game since Corey Patterson for Toronto on May 28, 2011. Prado became the third Marlins’ player to achieve that feat in Club history, joining Juan Pierre (October 2, 2005 vs. Atlanta) and Josh Willingham (July 1, 2007 vs. Atlanta). No other Major League team has had three such instances since the Marlins inaugural season in 1993. TAKING THE LEAD Martin Prado is batting .404 (21x52) over his last 13 games, with five doubles, two home runs, nine RBI, a .429 on-base percentage, and a .615 slugging percentage. He ranks sixth in the National League in batting over that span, behind Jonathan Lucroy (.421), Travis d’Arnaud (.417), Brandon Moss (.412), Joey Votto (.406), and Andrew McCutchen (.405). Prado , who set a career high with five hits last night, is batting .556 (10x18) with three doubles and five RBI during a four- game hitting streak that coincides with the Club’s four-game winning streak. NOTHING WRONG WITH HIS BAT Christian Yelich, who has been slowed recently by a right knee contusion, hasn’t been letting that affect his perfor- mance at the dish. Yelich is batting .556 (10x18) during a five-game hitting streak, with four doubles and two RBI. He is batting .429 (24x56) with nine doubles and seven RBI since August 3; his average in that time leads the Majors (min. 57 PA), though he has appeared in only 14 games over that span due to a DL stint from Aug. 10-25 for the knee contu- sion. Yelich, who was also on the DL from April 20 to May 8 with a lower back strain, opened the season batting .227 (47x207) over his first 55 games (through June 26), with a .295 on-base percentage. Over 44 games since then, he is batting .366 (60x164) - which leads the Majors (min. 150 PA) - and has a .425 OBP; his season average has risen to .288 (+.061) in that time, and his OBP to .353 (+.058). THE GOLD STANDARD With defensive metrics now a component of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award®, the Marlins have two of the highest rat- ed position players not just in the National League, but in MLB. In terms of DEF (defensive runs above average), Adeiny Hechavarria (19.9) leads all National League position players and ranks second in the Majors to only Kevin Kiermaier (27.2). Hechavarria leads all NL shortstops in UZR (ultimate zone rating) at 14.1, ahead of Andrelton Simmons (10.8) and Nick Ahmed (10.5). Hech is also tied for the NL lead in games started (129) at shortstop, and is second in innings played (1120.1). Dee Gordon, his partner up the middle, ranks second among NL second basemen in DEF (7.0) and UZR (5.3) to Addison Russell, who has 7.9 and 6.7 marks, respectively. Gordon, however, has played 1041.1 innings, compared to Russell’s 746.0. - Fangraphs ONE WAY, OR ANOTHER When the Mets and Marlins meet in Miami, the Fish have dominated one-run games, going 39-15. When the Clubs play a game with a margin of five-plus runs, however, the Mets hold a 35-8 edge. They are much closer when the margin is two-to-four runs, with Miami up, 44-41 (excludes three games in Puerto Rico in 2010). - Stats LLC A WALK IS AS GOOD AS A HIT Marcell Ozuna drew a bases-loaded walk to give the Marlins a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning last night. It was just the third bases-loaded walk of the season by the Marlins, which is tied with Colorado and Oakland for the second-fewest in the Majors, ahead of only Philadelphia (2). The only season that the Marlins had fewer than three was 1996, when they had just one (Josh Willingham). Ozuna has all three of the Marlins’ bases-loaded walks this year, and now has five in his career. He is the first Marlins’ player to do it three times in a season since Casey McGehee and Jarrod Saltalamacchia each had three last season; prior to that, the last Marlins’ players to do so were Dan Uggla (4) and Chris Coghlan (3) in 2009.
