Fixed and Mobile Subscriptions

Thenumberoffixedandmobilesubscriptionswas�83.52millionattheendofQ12011,comparedto68.13millionattheendofQ12010,withanannual increaseof15.40millionsubscriptionsand an annual growth rate of 22.60%.

The number of mobile subscriptions was�73.87 million at the end of Q1 2011,compared to 57.70million at the end of Q12010. This represents an annual increase of16.17 million subscriptions and an annualgrowth rate of 28.02%. Mobile subscriptionsaccounted for 88 % of total telephoneservice subscriptions at the end of Q1 2011.

Fixed Line and Mobile Penetration

Mobilepenetrationincreasedto94.13%atthe�endofQ12011, compared to 74.85%at theendofQ12010,representinganannualgrowthrateof19.28%.Ontheotherhand,fixedlinepenetrationreachedabout12.22%bytheendofQ12011.

Fixed Lines Subscriptions and Local Exchange Capacity

Total number of fixed line subscriptions has�reached9.65millionsubscriptionsattheendofQ12011comparedto10.43millionsubscriptionsattheendofQ12010.

The capacity of local exchanges increased�to 14.53million lines at the end of Q1 2011,Compared to 14.45 million at the end of Q12010. This represents an annual increase of0.09millionlinesandanannualgrowthrateof0.60%.

Thetotalnumberoffixedlinesubscriptionsin�urbanareasreached7.39millionbytheendQ12011 compared to 7.91 million subscriptionsby the end of Q1 2010. The total number ofsubscriptionsinruralareasreached2.26millionsubscriptionsbytheendofQ12011comparedto2.51millionsubscriptionsbytheendofQ12010.

Estimated Number of Internet Users*

TheestimatednumberofInternetusersincreased�to 24.15 million at the.Q1 2011, compared to17.43millionattheendofQ12010,representinganannualincreaseof6.72millionusersandanannualgrowthrateof38.53%.

Internetpenetrationincreasedto30.77%atthe�endofQ12011,comparedto22.61%attheendofQ12010,representinganannualgrowthrateof8.16%.

The cost of ICT services in Egypt is considered�internationallycompetitive.AccordingtotheWorldBankpricebasketmethodology,themonthlycostinEgyptinQ12011wasUSD4.06forafixedline*,USD2.74formobileservices**andUSD4.28forInternetservice.***

* The price for a residential fixed line is calculated as one-fifth of the installation charge, the monthly subscription charge and the cost of local calls (15 peak and 15 off-peak calls of three minutes each)

** Calculated based on the prepaid price for 25 calls per month spread over the same mobile network, other mobile networks and mobile to fixed line calls, during peak, off-peak and weekend times, in addition to 30 text messages.

*** Calculated based on the cheapest available tariff for connecting to the Internet for 20 hours a month (10 hours peak and 10 off-peak).

Communications Services Composite Price Index *

CommunicationsServicesCompositePriceIndex�reached74.24point inQ12010comparedto98.31pointinQ12009.

It is worth mentioning that the ICT Services�Composite Index had decreased during theperiodbetweenQ12005andQ42006,whileithadwitnessedarelativestabilityduringtheperiod Q1 2007 - Q3 2010, and witnessed adeclinestartingfromQ42010.

Post Offices

The total number of post offices increased�to3771at theendofQ12011, compared to3741at theendofQ12010, representinganincrease of 30 offices and an annual growthrateof0.80%.

The average number of people served by�individual post offices was 20.81 the end ofQ1 2011, compared to 20.61 at the end ofQ12010, representinganannual change204peopleandannualgrowthrateof0.99%.

Number of Pensions Distributed through Postal Offices

* The calculation of the index based on the recommendations of the Organization & Economic Cooperation and Development ( OECD) and the World Bank, the Communication Services composite Price Index is calculated based on a basket of ICT telecommunication services taking into account the nature of telecommunications services in Egypt. The Index has four main subcomponents: postal, fixed line telephone, mobile phone and internet services classified according to ISIC 4. Data was collected on tariffs and prices of these services for the period between 2002 to 2010 on quarterly bases that complies with the periodicity of computing the ICT GDP. The weights are calculated based on the share of each service from the total revenues for each company. The year 20062007/ was chosen to be the base year for the index.

Numberofbeneficiariesofpensions’distributed�through postal offices has increased to about4.63millionbeneficiariesinQ12011comparedtoabout4.20millionbeneficiariesinQ12010withanannualgrowthrateof10.24%.

On the other hand, the average number of�pensions distributed through postal offices intheplaceofresidencehasreached161millionbeneficiariesinQ12011.

The contribution of the ICT sector to real GDP�at constant prices increased to 4.16 % duringQ3 2010/2011 compared to 3.87 % in Q32009/2010.

ItisnoteworthythattotalGDPatconstantprices�oftheEgyptianEconomyreachedEGP199billionduringQ32010/2011.

ICT real GDP at constant prices reached 8.28�billion EGPduringQ32010/2011 compared to8.02billionEGPduringQ32009/2010.

Theprivatesectorcontributedwith thebiggest�shareofthesector’srealGDPreached5.8BillionEGPduringQ32010/2011constituting70%ofthetotalICTGDP.

ItisworthmentioningthatICTSectorrecordedthe�fourthhighestcontributiontototal implementedinvestmentwithapercentagereached8.79%attheendofQ32010/2011.

TheICTsectorprovidedthetreasurywithrevenue�exceedEGP33billionin2006and2007,comparedtoEGP10.25billion in2005withan increaseofEGP 23.2 billion. It worth mentioning that ICTsectorcontributiontothetreasuryreachedEGP71billionduringtheperiod(2004-2010)

This figure includes: ICT sector employees, Telecom�Egypt employees, Post employees , Smart VillageemployeesandMaadiTechnologyParkemployees,butdoesn’t includeindirectemployeesinICTsectorworking in IT clubs, internet cafes and privatecommunicationsstores.

It worth mentioning that each direct ICT job�opportunitiescreatesaround1.5-2jobopportunityinothersectors

Egypt’s Stock Exchange Telecommunication Index

Egypt’s Stock Exchange Telecommunication Index�witnessedanincreaseinitsvaluewithinQ22011toreach393pointinQ22011incomparisonwith270pointinQ12011*.

It is worth mentioning that this index includes�three companies operating in the ICT sector andlisted in Egypt Stock Exchange. These companiesare:TelecomEgypt,Mobinil,OrascomTelecom.

Percentageoflocalitieshavinginternetaccess�points has reached about 53% of the totalnumber of localities in Egypt in Q4 2010comparedto43%inQ42009withanannualgrowthrateof6%.

The number of IT Clubs connected to the Internet�hasreached1928representing89.18%ofthetotalnumberofITClubs,attheendofQ12011.

* IT clubs is a governmental initiative started in 2000 and aims at encouraging ICT usage in rural and remote areas. The idea behind the IT Clubs is to provide each and every person in society the chance to develop his/her skills through the use of technology and to have access to information and knowledge. IT clubs mainly target the low income areas, people with special needs and children who have dropped out from the schooling system.
