MEET OUR MARCH SPEAKER: ED OBAUGH (CONT.) Ed also spent an eight-month tour of duty on
the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier (CVA-19)
off the coast of Vietnam in the Gulf of
Tonkin. In November, 1971, he received an
Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Navy. Ed
describes his service in the Navy as “a
wonderful experience...it created memories
that one could never forget.”
After his Navy discharge, Ed worked with
Southern Weighing and Inspection Bureau
(SWIB) for 13 years. In July,1987, he was
hired by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s
Office. Ed proudly describes the many long
hours on his motorcycle as “an incredible
ride...25 years of
ministry!” He retired 7½
years ago after 25+
years of outstanding
service!
In 1986, Ed made the
important decision to join Exciting Idlewild
Baptist Church. He later became the faithful
Teacher of Joint Heirs Bible Fellowship
Class...a job he still holds. He happily calls
this time as “20+ years of loving on people!”
During these many years of service, Ed has
learned that “Scriptures are not about
people, but how God
can do things through
obedient people!”

MARCH AND APRIL LUNCHEON MUSICAL TALENT
Page 3
MEET OUR APRIL SPEAKER: JENNIFER HANES (CONT.) In this role, she works with applicants who
are interested in receiving an assistance
dog, students participating in a two-week
training course to be matched with a dog,
and 400 graduate teams living in eight
states. She also works with training a staff
and development team and is often called
upon to give media presentations for the
public.
Jennifer enjoys teaching
dogs and people, and
appreciates the challenge
of working with a variety
of personalities and
temperaments in both.
She says, “Training dogs
is rewarding, but my
biggest joy is meeting the
people whom we serve.” She works with
people of a variety of ages, backgrounds
and needs, and wants to help others catch a
vision of how an assistance dog can
enhance someone’s life by serving as their
ears, hands and/or feet.
MEET OUR MARCH MUSICAL TALENT: GEARY JARRETT My wife, Susan, and I
have been active
members of Idlewild
Baptist Church since
2002, after moving here
from Lynchburg, VA.
Coming from a much
smaller community and church, we initially
felt a little overwhelmed in the larger church
setting of Idlewild. But we were amazed at
how easily and quickly we became a part of
this church family, thanks to the
encouragement of people inviting us into
their fellowship and my involvement in our
excellent IBC Music Ministry.
Music is a passion I
inherited from my
son, Dr. Scott Allen
Jarrett. For many
years Scott was
successfully
involved in important
music activities in the Boston, MA area.
Recently, he has started a new professional
chorus in Charlotte, NC - the Bach Akadamie
Charlotte - as well as serving as President of
the Early Music America national
organization. Susan has taken on new
responsibilities in her job at Bank of America
and continues to thrive in her important role
there. I remain self employed with my
business, JIL Technologies, where I provide
computer support for many people, including
our IBC seniors.
