You Be t he Chem ist Challenge
All Serena 7th and 8th graders recently participated in the You Be the Chemist Challenge that
celebrates and elevates the science of chemistry to inspire on-going study and careers.
The Challenge is a multilevel individual competition, that begins with participants completing the
Challenge Qualifier at their schools. The Qualifier is a short multiple-choice test provided by CEF
and administered by educators. Top Qualifier scorers from each school then advance to the next
level of competition a Local or Local-as-State Challenge which will take place on Saturday, March

At the Local and State Challenges participants answer several rounds of multiple choice
questions. Students participate individually in the Challenge competitions. The students who
score the highest will move on to the next level of competition with the top participant from each
state advancing to the National Challenge!
Congratulations to Asia Robertson, William Woltje, Izzy Martin, and Alexis Linder for all your hard
work and good luck next Saturday!

Thirty students from grades sixth, seventh, and eighth earned the right to compete in the

settled, Ava Rosengren stood alone as the winner, and Audrey Tanas was runner-up. Ava gained
the right to participate in the LaSalle County Spelling Bee held at Ottawa High School on February

We had been collecting for the food pantry hoping to reach our goal of 100 items. We Did It with a total of 244 items. A huge thank you to all that shared for the pantry.
