Turn left heading for the new roundabout on the A34 opposite the new community school, Littleton Green. Turn left, uphill into Limepit Lane, opposite the school. Walk for approximately 500 metres to the hill summit and then turn left and enter the woodlands known as Belt Wood and follow the well used path for approximately one kilometre. Be careful, this path is strewn with tree roots in many places whilst it is also a little undulating. However, it is a wildlife haven. Follow Pottal Pool Road for approximately 500 metres to Mansty Lane on the left. Go past this laneand the ancient woodland next to it and known as Newlands Wood. Look for a lane on the right signposted Newtown and Bagley Park. Take this lane going past some cottages on the right until the lane becomes a track. Follow bearing left past a field on the left that is the site of a former mill. The track leads to a farm house where a right turn to a gate will lead into Hayes Wood, which is also believed to be ancient woodland. Once through the gate turn immediately left and follow the grass track around the edge of the wood to a small footbridge over a stream where there is a stile to negotiate into a field. At this point bear left and negotiate a ladder stile on the left. Follow the path keeping a barbed wire fence on the right until reaching a metal gate/stile. Negotiate this and then follow a fence on the right going past a marsh area called Mill Pool which is the site of a former pool belonging to Bone Milll. This area is adjacent to Wolgarston Farm clearly visible on the right and situated on higher ground. Keep walking until reaching the field boundary then go through a small gate into a farm track. Cross the track to reach a small causeway and the remains of an old sluice gate. Follow the track uphill, through trees until it changes to concrete and take the stile at the end (not the one on the left) into Wood Bank Lane. Follow the lane left, under the M6 Motorway and over the canal bridge. Take the steps down and turn right onto the towpath of the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. Continue along the towpath under Penkridge Bridge (its numbered 86) to the next bridge (numbered 85). Bear right here and up the path to Francis Green Lane and then left back over the canal to follow the lane through the housing estate to the main road called Wolgarston Way. At Wolgarston Way cross the road and enter Moor Hall lane and follow this over the M6 motorway. Follow until reaching Moor Hall Cottages on the left and after passing these go through a small gate on the right and follow the bridle track. While following the bridle track a field is visible ahead, and beyond is Pillaton Hall and the Chapel of St. Modwena. Keep going until reaching a T junction then turn left onto a concrete track. Follow uphill to the top and over and carry on through the farm yard of Pillaton Hall farm onto Cannock Road. Turn right and head for Cannock. Continue along Cannock Road for approximately ¾ mile until reaching Mansty Lane on the left. Pass the lane and continue for another 300 metres until reaching Cocksparrow Lane on the left. Enter Cocksparrow Lane and follow for approximately 100 metres and turn right into a Nature Reserve (signposted). Follow the pathway for 300 metres through woodland and heathland until identifying a left fork in the path heading uphill. Continue on this path until meeting wired fencing and bear right past the nature reserve pool on the left. Continue for about 500 metres past woodland on the right until meeting a quarry on the left and a broad pathway to the right. Take the broad pathway and head towards an area known as Shoal Hill bearing left until eventually meeting a municipal Golf Course ahead. Follow the path past houses on the left keeping the golf course boundary on the right. The path leads to the A34 Stafford Road. Cross the A34 and turn left, heading downhill for approximately 60 metres then turn right into a small drive that leads to another area of woodland known as Cavans Wood. Once in Cavans Wood follow the path forward for approximately 50 metres going past a residential area on the right. Take the left fork and follow the pathway heading East for approximately 800 metres past residential areas on both left and right until reaching an area on the left that is open farmland. Go past the farmland continuing for 200 metres until reaching Limepit Lane. Turn left and retrace back 500 metres to the A34 opposite Littleton Green Community School then turn right back to the Littleton Arms pub. Good Walking!
