It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 47th Malaysian Orthopaedic Association Annual Scientific Meeting (MOA ASM) which will be held from the 19th to 21st May 2017 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia. The theme for the 47th MOA ASM 2017 is “50 Years Of Orthopaedics – Inspiring Excellence”. Orthopaedics in Malaysia has evolved tremendously after 5 decades and where we are now is a result of what started back then. We want to inspire excellence in our practice by encouraging both our experienced surgeons as well as those who have just joined our fraternity to never stop learning. We all have it in us to expand the realm of capability when it comes to what the field of Orthopaedics can do for the betterment of mankind. By updating ourselves with the latest developments in the field, we train ourselves to think, apply and eventually innovate. This is the heart and soul of this upcoming scientific meeting.

The 47th MOA ASM organising committee under the leadership of Professor Dr Wan Faisham Nu’man Wan Ismail and Associate Professor Dr Abdul Halim Abd Rashid will definitely put together a comprehensive and extensive

scientific programme. Every year we receive increasing submissions for all the awards, namely the Mahmood Merican Best Masters Thesis Award, Best Basic Science Poster Award, Subir Sengupta Best Published Clinical Paper Award and the P. Balasubramaniam Best Published Translational Medicine Paper Award. The competitions have elevated the standards of research in the orthopaedics field in Malaysia and we highly encourage more submissions this year.

I am glad to announce that 2017 will mark the 50th Anniversary : Golden Jubilee Celebration of Malaysian Orthopaedic Association and we are taking this opportunity to celebrate and commemorate this golden milestone. For 50 years, this association has worked as a family, supporting not only its members but the foundation of orthopaedics in the medical field in Malaysia. This past half-century has proven that drive and support are the key to quality and longevity, which we hope to continue for the next 50 years.

We are hosting our meeting in the heart of Kuala Lumpur this year, bringing it back home to the city where it all started. Kuala Lumpur is one of Southeast Asia’s most alluring metropolises, which is a must visit destination. There are variety of attractions, shopping malls and food to indulge in the moment one steps into the city. There is truly no better place to host our meeting and to celebrate our golden jubilee.
