Nice big title which catches the attention of the audience

Pictures of both cars, and Richard Hammond facing the camera, and small thumbnails explaining what happens, integrated into the image.

Large title (RACE TIME) in big letter outlining the main article of the magazines. And underneath smaller thumbnails outlining some of the other articles within the magazine.

The colour scheme of the magazine is colourful and is designed to attract an audience who are interested in cars and motorsport.

Once again the main title of the magazine is at the top and is the biggest text on the front page.

In this image there is no eye contact (but that may be due to the fact it is animated) but it dose show the main character as well as one of the villains holding a weapon. It is also in black and white except for the red on the villain, and this is presented as the game being ‘dark’ and ‘grim’. The title of the main article is also underneath the image with big writing and smaller writing which explains in a little more detail.

As you can see here there is no thumbnails showing images of the other articles, but only text. This is done to give the main article a bit more importance, as that article in this particular magazine may be its selling point.

The main title is again at the top of the magazine in the biggest font of the front cover.

Here the main image is covering the title and this creates an effect as it highlights the image. As you can also see is all the people on the front cover are maintaining eye contact with the camera. Also included with the image is the small text outlining some of the articles in the magazine. As well as the main article in big text.

Here there are extra thumbnails at the bottom which outline the extra other bits in the magazine, as well as outlining the ‘give away’ in the magazine.

Conclusion on front covers:

After looking at these magazine front cover examples and have learnt some important techniques:

• The title needs to be dominant and one of the biggest features of the front cover

• The second main feature of the front cover needs to be the image, it is important that the people featured on the cover are maintaining eye contact, and look composed, as well as being good looking.

• The title that will accompany the image has to be visible and pretty dominant as this is the main article.

• Mostly on all front covers there is always some sort of snippet which shows what is featured in the magazine, but depending on how much emphasis you want on the image, you may not want to include other images as thumbnails.

The contents page title, as you can see that it doesn't have to be called ‘contents page’. But it dose have to be relevant

The main image on the contents page, in this case it also is the image for the article it supports.

As you can see there us an article which begins on the contents page.

Here is the main contents, as you can see it outlines each article as well as providing a suitable page number for each one.

Here is an advertisement which promotes the company which produces the magazine

Page 8: Magazine front cover.contents page analasys

The image fills the whole contents page and this highlights the image in the magazine

The title of the contents is here and it is quite simply called contents

All the articles in the magazine are here, but in this example there are no page numbers so I presume the articles are in numerical order

Page 9: Magazine front cover.contents page analasys

Once again the title of the contents page, and notice how they are all featured near the top of the magazine

The main image of the contents page, notice how much larger it is compared to the others.

All the contents, and an image down the left and above side to support the contents, as well as a preview of the articles. Notice how each section has a separate title.

Here is another section of the contents, with another title for the section, as well as a picture to support this particular part of the contents.

Highlighted by the blue oval, there are standalone thumbnails of the main articles featured within the magazine

Conclusion on contents pages:

After looking at these magazine contents pages examples and have learnt some important techniques:

• The word contents, or a word that indicates this needs to be featured nearer the top of the magazine

• There needs to be a dominant picture on the contents page, (preferably different to the one on the front cover)

• The contents of the article needs to be split into what the article is called and page number.

• Turn some of the more important articles into thumbnails, to show a preview to the reader
