“We should never stop being students throughout our entire lives and be open to this, as there is so much to learn and the world is constantly changing faster than we ever can. The more I learn and the older I get, the more I realize I don't know. However, just as importantly, we should never stop being teachers and passing on what knowledge and experience we do have for others to synthesize, compare, challenge and absorb. Because teaching others is the greatest way to test our own comprehension.” - Mark Harwood

Market Facilitation Clinics

Page 8: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Clinics

We are always busy. Too busy to learn or reflect…

Page 9: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Clinics

To busy to listen to what others are saying and doing…

Page 10: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Clinics

Whenever we have time or are forced to learn, we do it “backwards”. We learn from past experiences.

Page 11: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Clinics

If we only learn “backwards” we might lose track of the road ahead and of the present challenges.

This is why the Clinics are useful!

Page 12: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Clinics • “LEARNING FORWARD”

• ON THE JOB

• FOR THE JOB

• CONTRAST

• NETWORKING

• KNOWLEDGE PRODUCTION

• SENSE OF COMMUNITY

Clinics - definition

A place to come to diagnose and move forward with urgent problems.

NOT coming to experts who will give you the solution, but rather a group process…

whereby participants help their colleagues respond to challenges more effectively.

The four thematic groups that were formed for this pilot

Page 15: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Satisfaction with the process: it went well but there is room for improvement.

“Difficult logistics of different time zones”

“I realized there are no easy solutions” “I missed

one key call”

“Good opportunity to get together”

“Spurred me to take action more strategically”

Page 16: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Real changes in real projects took place as a result of the Clinics!

Strategy in action:

The Market Facilitation Tools Portal

Page 21: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

The Market Facilitation Tools Portal is…

a platform to help inclusive market facilitators access appropriate tools more quickly and reliably, improve their productivity and avoid reinventing the wheel every time they have to plan and execute common project management activities.

Market Facilitation Tools Portal

Making it work for you What types of resources and service do you think this PORTAL SHOULD offer?

(Think also about project managers and field practitioners)

Page 26: MaFI Meeting 2016 (slides)

Market Facilitation Tools Portal

Factors that would make it unique: • Type of resources• Fine-grain search (better than Google search)• Quality control• Tried & tested• Context • Networking of users – community of practice

WRAPPING UP
