The new 4.0 litre, twin turbocharged V8 Continental GT coupé and GTC convertible achieve exceptional stan-

dards for power-to-emissions in the high luxury sports car sector. This remarkable, new Bentley V8 engine delivers

maximum power of 500bhp (507PS/373Kw) at 6000 rev/min and an extraordinary peak torque of 660Nm (487

lb ft) which is available across virtually the entire rev range from 1700 to 5000 rev/min, providing exhilarating

At the same time, the new V8 Continental models achieve outstanding levels of fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions

for the luxury performance sector and are capable of travelling over 500 miles (800km) on a single tank of fuel.

Full and official figures will be released in early 2012.

The arrival of the new V8 Continental models fulfils Bentley’s environmental commitment to produce a new pow-

ertrain that delivers a 40 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions.

The new V8 engine features variable displacement with a highly sophisticated engine management system, ensur-

ing a seamless and imperceptible transition from V8 to V4 mode under light throttle load.

The high-technology V8 also features high pressure direct injection, low friction bearings, thermal management,

energy recuperation via the charging system, and innovative turbo charger packaging for greater efficiency.

The instantly recognisable growl of the new 4.0 litre V8 engine sets it apart from its Bentley stablemates.

The new V8 engine will be available in two models; the Continental GT and the Continental GTC. Expressing

their potent, muscular character, these models are distinguished by a black gloss matrix grille with chrome frame

and centre bar, a red enamel Bentley ‘B’ badge, and a black matrix three-segment lower front bumper divided by

distinctive body-coloured strakes.

At the rear, unique chromed ‘figure eight’ exhaust tailpipes, a dark lower valance and red enamel ‘B’ bootlid

badge emphasise the sporty, contemporary identity of the new V8s.

Both models are specified with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard with an optional 21-inch six-spoke design which

is available in dramatic Diamond Black (exclusive to the Continental V8) or Diamond Silver finishes.

The two new Continental models will be offered beneath the flagship 6.0 litre,12-

cylinder engined Continental GT and GTC, which continue to excite customers with

a combination of silken refinement and the ultimate power of the twin-turbocharged

W12 Continental engine that, in its most potent form, delivers an astonishing 631bhp

(640PS). Both new models feature a state-of-the-art, all-wheel drive system employing

an advanced Torsen differential and a 40:60 rear biased power split. This ensures

Acura today announced at the North American International

Auto Show in Detroit that an all-new Acura NSX supercar will

be manufactured in Ohio. In addition, the new sports car will

be developed in the U.S., including the Ohio Center of Honda

R&D Americas, Inc. (HRA).

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. President and CEO Takanobu Ito un-

veiled a concept version of the Acura NSX today in Detroit.

Although Acura is keeping most of the vehicle’s details under

wraps, the new NSX will employ a lightweight chassis, a mid-

mounted V-6 engine and Acura’s innovative new Sport Hybrid

SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) system. Ito said

the new supercar will come to market within three years.

Along with unveiling the NSX concept, Ito

announced that it will be built in Ohio.

Honda plans to produce the new supercar

near its current auto production operations

in central Ohio at a unique, advanced

manufacturing operation. The original

Acura NSX was built at Honda plants in

Japan from 1990 to 2005.

Stuttgart’s sportiest Gran Turismo is leaving the pits: the Panamera GTS.

The clue is in the name. At Porsche, GTS stands for Gran Turismo Sport,

promising extraordinary Porsche performance ever since the legendary

904 Carrera GTS back in 1963.

More power and upgraded brakes, a body lowered by ten millimetres

and the especially sportily tuned chassis with air suspension and PASM

are the major technical modifications that make it the Panamera model

capable of cutting it on the racing circuit – without sacrificing practical-

ity. The sportiest of all Panameras also conveys this to occupants and the

outside world by its striking sound. In terms of looks, the new Panamera

GTS signals its independence by distinctive design features in the front-

end, side and rear area as well as black highlights. The interior as well

is rigorously tailored to the sporty personality with sports seats, Sport-

Design steering wheel with shift paddles, exclusive GTS leather interior

and Alcantara surfaces.

The power unit in the new Panamera GTS is a modified 4.8-litre nat-

urally aspirated V8 engine, delivering 430 hp (316 kW) at 6,700

rpm, trumping the engine in its Panamera S/4S sister models by 30

hp (22 kW). The maximum torque also increased by comparison,

from 500 Nm to 520 Nm. The way in which at the push of a but-

ton the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmits the engine

output to the all-wheel drive (PTM) – thanks to the Sport Chrono

package featured as standard without interruption to the power flow

– is especially dynamic. This collaboration enables the Panamera

GTS to sprint to 100 km/h in under 4.5 seconds, accelerating on to

its top speed of 288 km/h. With NEDC fuel consumption of 10.9

l/100 km – only 10.7 l/100 km with low-friction tyres – the Pana-

mera GTS remains as much of an efficiency role model in its milieu

as all Porsche models.

The standard values for sprint and top speed don’t do full

justice to the new Panamera GTS’s sporty characteristics. Its

chassis in particular makes it fit for the racing circuit: The

adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension

Management (PASM) featured as standard connect the chas-

sis and body, constantly adapting to the driving challenges

by regulating levelling settings, adjusting height, adjusting

the spring rate and electrically adjusting the damping sys-

tem. The damping is designed to be tauter, which helps

agility and further reinforces the new Gran Turismo’s sporty

personality. Five millimetre thick wheel spacers between the

wheel and the wheel carriers increase the rear axle track

width, giving the Panamera an even more stable ride. The

required grip is provided by 255/45 size 19-inch tyres on

the front axle and 285/40 on the rear axle. Deceleration on

the sporty Panamera is provided by the superlative braking

system of the Panamera Turbo. •

With the completely redeveloped SL, Mercedes-

Benz continues a tradition that began 60 years

ago. The letters “SL” have ever since been synony-

mous with a symbiosis of sportiness, style and com-

fort – and with groundbreaking innovations. The

new SL has been produced for the first time almost

entirely from aluminium and weighs up to 140 kilo-

grams less than its predecessor. Its highly rigid all-

aluminium bodyshell provides the basis for agile,

sporty handling that has been taken to an entirely

come courtesy of the new BlueDIRECT engines; they

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz SL takes the meaning of

the famous letters “SL” – sporty, lightweight – literally. Con-

sistent weight reduction is one of the most outstanding design

characteristics in the new SL as was the case in its namesake,

the original SL of 1952 with its lightweight tubular frame. For

the first time Mercedes-Benz has implemented an all-aluminium

bodyshell in a series-production model. Only very few compo-

nents consist of other materials. The designers use the even

lighter magnesium for the cover behind the tank. High-strength

steel tubing is integrated in the A-pillars for safety reasons.

The new aluminium bodyshell weighs around

110 kilograms less than it would using the steel

technology from the predecessor. “The effect

is rather as if a heavyweight-class passenger

The new SL combines its aesthetically honed profile,

which follows the Mercedes-Benz tradition, with a luxu-

rious feel. Fine materials, perfectly finished with great

attention to detail, distinguish the style and character of

the interior.

Compared with its predecessor, the new generation of

the SL is much longer 4612 mm (+50 mm) and wider

1877 mm (+57 mm), providing more room for more

comfort in the interior, too. Shoulder room (+37 mm)

and elbow room (+28 mm) have been increased, ex-

ceeding the dimensions normally found in this vehicle

class. Clear lines create a formally coherent internal

space within this comfortable interior. Generously used

wood trim extends from the centre console across the

dashboard into the doors, creating a pleasant wrap-

around effect. Three types of wood along with two dif-

ferent aluminium trim finishes are available. Perfectly

in tune with the roadster’s character, it combines the

unpretentious atmosphere of a high-performance sports

car with a comfortable, stylish ambience one comes to

expect in a luxurious touring car. •

GranCabrio Fendi, designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, is born from the

union of two iconic brands of the Made in Italy, which share common values

such as craftsmanship and tradition.

The three-layered body colour named Grigio Fi-

amma Fendi is a special dark grey with an iri-

descent golden finish on the surface. The wood

trim Pergamena Fendi runs across the width of

the dashboard, on the doors and on the top of

the gear lever, all in the iconic FENDI yellow, like

the brake callipers and the embroidered yellow

trident on the headrests.

Adding a stronger yet elegant character to the GranCabrio is FENDI’s un-

mistakable double F logo, stitched on the seat, also appearing in the centre

of the 20-inch alloy wheels, and the FENDI logo along the rocker panel.

Cuoio Romano, Fendi’s precious leather of its Selleria line, has been used

for such details as the instrument cluster cover, for the gear lever and for

the profile of the floor mats. It also features in the Limited Edition Travel Set

of luggage and accessories.
