In Zeewolde, the Netherlands on March 3, 2009 - Spyker

Cars, manufacturer of exclusive premium sports cars since

2000, proudly introduced the production version of its all-

new second-generation sports car: the Spyker C8 Aileron, the

prototype of which was shown at Geneva in 2008.

Victor R. Muller, Spyker Cars’ founder and Chief Executive

Officer said on the occasion of the unveiling: “When we un-

veiled the C8 Aileron prototype here last year, we wanted to

make a clear statement to the industry that Spyker was about

to take the next step in its short but intense history, by introduc-

ing its second-generation sports cars, developed from scratch.

Within a year we transformed that prototype into the produc-

tion-ready car we show here today. The first cars are being

built now with customer production and deliveries starting in

May 2009. The C8 Aileron’s design is heavily inspired by

Spyker’s aviation heritage, as was the case with all previous

models, but with a clear emphasis on the second-generation

aircraft propulsion: the turbine rather than the propeller that

adorned so many elements of the first-generation cars. Simi-

larly the “Aileron” name pays tribute to that aviation heritage.

It is the device that makes an aircraft turn and symbolizes the

turning point that the Aileron is for Spyker: the car which will

turn the company towards long-awaited profitability.”

11

www.luxuryautodirect.com

Page 14: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

The Spyker C8 Aileron’s all-aluminum space frame was completely redesigned from scratch with the objective to in-

crease torsional rigidity and to incorporate an all-new suspension system. These characteristics provide an ideal founda-

tion for enhanced vehicle dynamics.

Moreover, the C8 Aileron’s dimensions have been optimized for more interior space and to accommodate the optional

automatic gearbox. Compared to the short wheelbase of the first generation cars - the Spyker C8 Laviolette and C8

Spyder - the wheelbase of the C8 Aileron is 150 mm longer, also providing for more driving comfort and stability at

high speeds. Its front track has increased by 155 mm. The total dimensions of the front and rear track are now 1625

mm and 1645 mm respectively, which improves road handling significantly.

Spyker has put tremendous efforts in the space frame performance of the C8 Aileron, specifically the structure’s ef-

ficiency. The dynamic stiffness characteristics of the structure have been carefully tuned in order to minimize unwanted

cabin noises and vibrations, which may otherwise detract from the driving experience. These technologies and mea-

sures have allowed Spyker to arrive at the most efficient chassis in its history.

12

www.luxuryautodirect.com

Page 15: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

The design of the hand-crafted Spyker C8 Aileron represents the latest evolution of Spyker’s signature architecture,

which is prominently inspired by the company’s aviation heritage. In the first-generation cars, the propeller design was

consistently applied to many elements of the cars. Within the design of the new Spyker C8 Aileron, the emphasis was

shifted from the propeller propulsion to the turbine propulsion. As a result, for instance, the bright polished air inlets

were converted into turbine-engine shaped air scoops.

13

www.luxuryautodirect.com

Page 16: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

in order to enhance the aerodynamic performance of the car, several changes in styling were made, such as stretch-

ing the canopy backwards. Most of the shark-like gills have been abandoned, which results in a cleaner, smoother

appearance. The front end is now characterized by a larger grille that gives additional cooling. Also the rear diffuser

was redesigned for improved functionality. An extra spoiler has been placed under the diffuser, providing additional

downforce to boost the ground effect produced by the diffuser.

Sometimes practicality gains over design: the split side windows with the characteristic metal frame have been re-

placed by single-pane side windows that are fully retractable, improving driving comfort. The outside mirrors, standard

in body color, were redesigned and the mirror body is mounted on two turbine fan blades.

You can find much more information on this and other Spyker automobiles by visiting www.spykercars.com. Keep up

to date as Spyker continues their ascent to position themselves among the best of the best in the exotic car industry. •

Beautiful cars and everything that goes with it keeps fascinating large numbers of people. And the fact that fascination

often leads to passion is proven by the new Corvette Z03 presented by Mallett Cars from Berea, Ohio and USD B.V,

syllable for Ugur Sahin Design from Gorinchem, the Netherlands.

To the team of Ugur Sahin Design the Corvette C6 rolling chassis presented itself as the ideal platform to start working

from. The chassis has proven to be an extremely competitive package on the public roads and even more so on the

circuits with the Le Mans victories as best proof of the competence of the C6 Corvette.

With the Corvette Z03 project the 24 year old automotive designer Ugur Sahin has not only created a visually stunning

concept, its name also covers the charge due to its very eminent design language translating the Corvette C3 series

into a timeless design. To describe the project in one sentence is almost impossible, because this Z03 project incorpo-

rates two worlds in one: Supercar performance and the art of Automotive Haute Couture. The limited production series

of 100 vehicles will be visually enhanced with stylish handcrafted Carbon Fibre bodyworks, painted in a color to the

clients choice. Every body part will be precision engineered by the state of the art engineering equipments to ensure

the maximum build quality.

Since the first press release early 2008 Ugur Sahin and his team have been involved in a lot of preparations to take

the Z03 concept from art to parts.

17

Page 20: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

Several exterior design adjustments have been made for optimal engine cooling and improved downforce.

The headlight units have been shaped into a more aggressive, yet distinctive design to fit the shape of the

new powerdome hood.

For fabrication and engine tuning of the limited Cor-

vette series Ugur Sahin Design has teamed up with

Mallett Cars from Berea, Ohio. Mallett Cars has a

long history with racing Corvettes and the Mallett

brothers have tuned and upgraded hundreds of Cor-

vettes over the years. Now that Ugur Sahin Design

and Mallett Cars have set their minds on the Corvette

C6, they are aiming to push the bar even higher for

the American performance car enthusiasts. Proof of

this statement is that Mallett Cars has developed a

full 24000 mile/ two year guaranteed 999 hp Twin

Turbo engine upgrade, which makes the Mallett Z03

the most powerful Corvette series ever produced. Af-

ter the first testings of the 999HP engine upgrade,

acceleration times from 0 to 60 mp/h have been

clocked under 3 seconds and the top speed of reach-

ing 220 miles per hour.

Pricing of the conversion of your Corvette C6 or Z06 into a USD Mallett Z03 is set at $ 69.000 for the full

bodywork conversion including reference class paintwork. Pricing does not include cost of the donor vehicle,

which will be supplied by the customer.

The Mallett Z03 will be available with two optional performance packages

based on the GM’s LS7 engines, a 700 hp supercharged conversion and a

999 hp twin turbo conversion. •

MEC Design has been designing tuning products for over 10 years now and are very proud to show off their curvacious

new CLS bodykit. The CLS bodykit is hot on the heels of the S-Class bodykit, which was released at the end of 2008.

The bodykit will also be available for the CL in May with the SL bodykit following soon after.

The bodykit features some of the most curvacious lines available, and the front bumper looks meaner than the devil on

a bad day. It is available with daylight driving lights and fog lights or with a mesh inset. The rear bumper is available

with the Sports Diffusor look or with a sleek elegant finish. The side skirts are available with or without LED lighting (5

lights per side) which is linked up to the internal lighting. The 3 piece rear spoiler finishes it all off nicely and is just

another indication of MEC Designs attention to detail.

23

www.luxuryautodirect.com

Page 26: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

The alloy wheels are also designed by MEC Design and are a 3 piece design. The

mecxtreme I wheels features a forged centre piece which is high gloss compressed

and have stainless steel outer rims. The front features 11x20 with 4,5 inch outer

rims and 295/25 ZR 20 Hankook tires, whilst the rear has 13x20 with 5 inch outer

rims again with 325/25 ZR 20 Hankook tires. The front axel has 10mm spacers

and the rear axel 19mm spacers.

This model features the MEC Design Electronic Lowering Module, which is avail-

able for models CLS270 - CLS63AMG with Airmatic Suspension. It is available with

standard measure that allows for lowering of 20-40mm or with special measure,

which takes it down between 40-70mm. For the models CLS270-CLS350 and those

without Airmatic suspension there is the MEC Design height adjustable coilover kit,

ideal for spirited street driving or light track use. The 28-way adjustable kits allow

for dampening tuning in the front and dampening and rebound tuning in the rear

with just a simple click of the knob. This kit offers adjustable depths for front axel

30-70mm and rear axel of 30-65mm.

24

Page 27: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

The MEC Design sports exhaust system is manufactured from mandrel-bent stain-

less steel tubing, stainless steel resonator and muffler. The sounds that it pro-

duces are pretty amazing; the featured version is called “Earthquake” and its

understandable why when you hear it. It is also available in a quieter version.

The delicately placed embossed MEC Design logo on the quad oval chrome tips

are the perfect finishing touch.

The interior features the MEC Design sports multi-functional airbag steering

wheel. With its superb attention to details the distinctive ergonomically designed

handles make it a pleasure to grip. It is hand-made from the finest leather/Al-

cantara and solid wood/carbon you can really see the difference. The footmats

are made from precious velours and feature Nubuck leather embroidery again

with the MEC Design logo.

Cem Altun, Company CEO and the driving force behind MEC Design’s success

says “I was over the moon when we released the bodykit for the S-Class in Oc-

tober last year, I didn’t think anything could beat it, but this looks absolutely

amazing. The reactions that we’ve had to it so far have been exceptional.”

25

Page 28: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

MEC Design are an exclusive tuning company based in Berlin, Germany. They were founded in 1999 by

Cem Altun and specialize in Mercedes-Benz and have an extensive range of extraordinary tuning and styling

products. They are well know for being extreme with their wheels and even named their own brand of alloy

wheels after the fact. The Mecxtreme I was designed and released in 2003 and since then the Mecxtreme II

and III have also been added to their exclusive range. They have stainless steel outer rims with a very strong

inner rim and a forged center piece which means that they are pretty much indestructible.

In 2007 they created a World Record beating car by fitting a CLS with 11+13x20” with a front tire of 295

and rear tire of 325 and all the bodywork was done without the need for painting or lackering. They have

been making a big noise all over Germany and Europe for over 10 years and are now expanding into North

America and the rest of the World. They will be exhibiting their extreme designs in the USA later on in the

year so keep an eye out. •

Ulysse Nardin has blended the complex art of traditional mechanical watch making

and the outstanding art of Haute Joaillerie into one extraordinary timepiece – The

Genghis Khan Haute Joaillerie.

This unique mechanical timepiece crafted in 18 ct rose or white gold is fitted with 60

white or black baguette diamonds over the bezel and 28 white or black baguette dia-

monds on the lugs, magnifying the impact of the design of the black onyx dial and the 4

hand-crafted warriors in action. The interior of the bezel is either set with 48 white and

12 black baguette diamonds or 48 black and 12 white baguette diamonds which serve

to mark the hours. Each diamond is brilliantly cut by a highly-skilled precious stone cutter

and integrated into the detailed case, adding expert craftsmanship to a remarkably in-

novative timepiece. The high quality of the 148 baguette diamonds (approximately 6.2

ct, Top Wesselton) in combination with the extraordinary mechanics of the Genghis Khan

Haute Joaillerie represent the best of the art of fine watch engineering.

The visible one minute Tourbillon is integrated into the black onyx watch dial. The

Tourbillon bridge is the same shape as those used on the Tourbillons James Pellaton

produced for Ulysse Nardin at the beginning of the 20th century. The well-finished

movement with 36 jewels has a diameter of 27.60 mm and a height of 8.50 mm. All

movement parts have been decorated, angled and finished by hand. •

are already swirling. As we arrive, the visual pop of the bright

cars grabs your attention first. You have entered a different

time and place. This is not normal, and you are part of it.

As you enter the main drag, you lower your window to hear

the concert of engine exhausts, and without exception, goose

bumps shriek up your arms. Pulling your car onto a golf course

is not a daily event for most of us, and we have spent consider-

Known as one of the nation’s most ground-breaking vintage automotive events both in design and innovation,

the 14th annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, held March 13-15, attracted over 250 cars from seven

countries to fill out the 10th and 18th fairways of The Golf Club of Amelia Island.

The coveted Best in Show award went to the Munder Collection out of West Palm Beach, Florida, for a 1931

Voisin C20 Demi-Berline. Gabriel Voisin was a pioneer in French aviation and also lent his name to some of

the most beautiful cars of the 1920s and 1930s. His cars are highly sought after today by collectors for their

advanced technical design and attention to detail. Voisin died in 1973 in France.

The Amelia Island Concours de Sport award for the best race car went to a 1923 Miller Special 122 Super-

charged racer owned by A. Dano Davis of Jacksonville. Considered a rare find today, Millers are some of

the oldest race cars around and they are still raced in numerous vintage series. Harry Miller was a master

at supercharging and is one of America’s greatest racing figures. In fact, he ruled Indy during the 1920s

winning five 500s and he never placed less than six cars in the top ten.

“Once again the judges did their duty and two very deserving vehicles were recognized above the rest,”

says Bill Warner, founder and co-chairman of Amelia. “It was exciting to see that both cars were from the

state of Florida; it just shows you how much of a haven we are for top notch car collectors and collections.”

Attendance was steady this year despite the current economic downturn with the three-day event attracting

more than 15,000 people. The show honored veteran racer and SPEED commentator, David Hobbs and

featured the elegant creations of Southern California coachbuilder, Bohman & Schwartz, including a one-

of-a-kind display of the Rolls Royce Phantom Corsair, designed by the late Rust Heinz, heir to the H.J. Heinz

food empire.

Also celebrated were the 50th anniversaries of the first US Grand Prix Formula One race at Sebring Inter-

national Raceway and the only Indy car race ever held at the Daytona International Speedway. To recount

the history and legacy of these races, a seminar called “The Great Roadster Drivers,” was held on Saturday,

March 14 with panelists including Jim Rathmann, Johnny Rutherford, Bobby Unser and Parnelli Jones. •

Ulysse Nardin, the leader in mechanical timepieces, and SCI Innovations, a pioneer in uniting leading technologies

and elegant design into heralded consumer products, have come together to create the world’s first and finest hybrid-

powered smart phone under the Ulysse Nardin brand.

Titled the Chairman, this innovative hybrid smart phone embodies Ulysse Nardin’s core values of expert craftsmanship,

heritage and timeless style, while incorporating the world’s most technologically advanced applications. A marquis

product for the heralded brand, this groundbreaking partnership is a first for Ulysse Nardin.

The Ulysse Nardin Chairman is the culmination of rigorous research and development to create the pinnacle in smart

phone design. This new hybrid smart phone is made from the finest materials available and is hand-assembled by

some of the world’s best engineers. The Chairman visually shares many of Ulysse Nardin’s iconic elements including

the symbolic anchor on the screw-mounted pusher and, most significantly,

the customized Ulysse Nardin winding rotor located on

the reverse side of the device.

Page 59: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

A first for the mobile phone industry, the Chairman features a

functioning mechanical watch rotor that is also incorporated into

its aesthetic design. This crucial component was specially de-

signed by Ulysse Nardin for the Chairman smart phone. Similar

to an automatic watch that receives power from the force of a

rotor, the Chairman does the same: charging a built-in battery

using the kinetic energy of the moving rotor to supply supplemen-

tal power to the Chairman.

The Chairman is an open smart phone compatible with most GSM networks around the world. Built from the ground up

with the C-Level executive in-mind, ease of use is a primary focus. The customized user-interface is easily navigated with

a 2.8” touch-screen and oversized numeric buttons for quick reference and seamless typing. The Chairman is an ad-

vanced smart phone that incorporates a highly specialized fingerprint recognition security feature, only permitting the

specified owner access. The Chairman also features a high-

resolution digital camera and is capable of

capturing digital videos. •

Throughout 2009 the Morgan Motor Company is celebrating one

hundred years of continuous manufacture of motorcars. The company

has remained in one family’s ownership since the founder HFS Mor-

gan made his first car in 1909. As part of the Centenary celebrations

Morgan announces a truly special model.

Designed and engineered in house, the Morgan Aero SuperSports is a lightweight aluminium sports car with a

luxurious specification. The interior features a comfortable combination of polished hardwoods, hand stitched

leather and electronic technology to create a driving environment that is efficient, ergonomic and sumptuous. In

spite of all this opulence the overall weight of the car is still minimal so the car is responsive to driver inputs and

economical to run. The unique way Morgan can achieve this is down to our use of aircraft style superformed alu-

minium outer panels and the skills of our craftsmen to hand finish the assembly of each car.

This technology debuted in the 100 AeroMax coupes built by the factory in 2008 and 2009. Such was demand

for this model, that Morgan have taken the decision to produce the Morgan Aero SuperSports. A limited edition,

the car makes use of two aluminium detachable roof panels. These can either turn the car effectively in to a coupe

or when detached bring fresh air and the aromas of the seasons to the driving experience without undue wind

disturbance to spoil the journey. The panels can be stored conveniently in the boot.

60

Page 63: Luxury Auto Direct Magazine

The car of course benefits from the lightweight aluminium Aero chassis which is adhesively bonded for class lead-

ing rigidity. Exceeding global crash protection standards, this is also the platform used by the Morgan Aero Eight

GT3 currently competing successfully in the 2009 International FIA GT3 Championship. This chassis combined

with the aluminium 4.8 litre BMW V8 engine and a choice of 6 speed automatic or manual gearboxes offers an

unrivalled driving experience. No other automatic car offers such dynamic power transmission.

Drawn by Matthew Humphries, and engineered for production by the experienced “Morgan Design” team, the

new Aero Super Sports is due to enter production in early 2010. A deposit of $37,000 is required to ensure the

supply of one of these exciting new models. It is anticipated to cost around $187,000 including VAT.

Charles Morgan, Grandson of the founder said “ The Morgan Aero SuperSports is a luxurious flamboyant sports

car which also remains true to Morgan’s philosophy of lightweight minimalist simplicity. It is a celebration of our

love of cars and the romance of travel and is a fitting model to announce during Morgan’s Centenary year.” •

Featuring a motorised retractable fabric roof, the DBSs beautiful profile is preserved whether up or down. When

the roof is closed, it provides a warm comfortable ambience and when open, it neatly disappears behind the new

tonneau cover at the touch of a button.

Aston Martins Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ulrich Bez said, “The DBS Volante delivers the utmost relaxed driving

experience with the hood up or down. It combines engineering excellence with design perfection. The DBS Vo-

lante offers a subtle mix of power and performance. Adding to this, the fine craftsmanship it is an unparalleled

ownership and driving experience.”

Conceived as a Volante from the outset, Aston Martin engineers opted for a fabric hood to closely follow the

silhouette of the DBS coupe and due to its lightweight properties, minimise overall weight gain. Fully retractable

in only 14 seconds and at up to speeds of 30 mph (48 km/h), the roof will automatically stow under the newly

sculpted tonneau, maintaining the DBS Volantes perfect form hood up or down.

66

Power is provided by Aston Martins hand-built all alloy 6.0-litre V12 engine producing 510 bhp (380 kW / 517

PS), and 570 Nm (420 lb ft) of torque with a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h) and 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h)

time of 4.3 seconds. The nature of the V12, and in particular the torque available at all engine speeds, serves to

provide effortless driving in all situations.

67

Aston Martins 16th convertible in 95 years, the DBS Volante draws on the marques extensive experience in designing

iconic Volantes and is a 2+2 featuring two occasional rear seats, ideal for young people or extra luggage. In standard

specification, the DBS has a rear-mounted six-speed manual gearbox, while an automatic six-speed Touchtronic option

is also available. As with the coupe, the Volante is offered with carbon ceramic brakes as standard providing excep-

tional stopping power. Benefitting from materials derived from the motorsport and aerospace industries, the bonnet,

front wings and boot lid are made from carbon fibre all helping to reduce weight.

The DBS Volante also comes with Bang & Olufsens renowned BeoSound DBS in-car entertainment system, featuring 13

speakers as standard equipment. The BeoSound DBS has been expertly tuned by Bang & Olufsens Tonmeisters and As-

ton Martins acoustic engineers specifically for the Volante resulting in a system that senses when the roof has been retracted

and adjusts the sound stage to compensate for extra wind noise, providing an unrivalled automotive audio experience. •

Building on the marque’s core values of

“Art – Forme – Technique” , Bugatti Au-

tomobiles S.A.S. has created the Bugatti

Veyron Bleu Centenaire, a unique model

to celebrate the hundred year old history

of the company. This special model takes

up the traditional Bugatti two-tone-specifi-

cation, but portrays it in one rather than

two colors: in the most known light shaded

Bugatti blue. The Centenaire’s unique com-

bination of a “sprintblue matt” and “sprint-

blue gloss” hence offers a new impression

of the two-tone-scheme known so far with

parts of the engine also covered in this tra-

ditional Bugatti Blue.

The roof-trim-stripes and the exterior rear-

view mirrors are of polished, anodised alu-

minium. A special wheel design has been

added – enhanced by a bright red brake-

capillar. The grills at the front and at the

side air intakes are in “mirror shine”.

The interior of the Centenaire is fitted in a special «snowbeige» leather with quilting on the seats. The central console

is covered in the same leather. New LED lights, Park Distance Control and a rearview camera have become part of

the standard equipment for all Bugatti Veyrons from this year onwards. The Bleu Centenaire shares all performance

characteristics of other Veyron models performance, acceleration and deceleration characteristics which have been

highly praised ever since the Bugatti Veyron first appeared on the scene. •
