Fresh off a sweep of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles is a season-high 19 games over .500 and leads the Giants by 5.0 games in the NL West, its largest divisional advantage of the year. Following the series with the Marlins, the Dodgers will pay visits to Yankee Stadium (3 games) and Chase Field (4), before heading back to Dodger Stadium for the final homestand of the season. The Dodgers were swept by Miami for the first time ever April 25- 28 and have already lost the season series with the Fish. Los Angeles is 8-5 at Marlins Park since the stadium opened in 2012. The Dodgers’ four-game losing streak against the Marlins is tied for their longest ever (Aug. 1, 1996-April 27, 1997). DOING IT ALL: Corey Seager, a top candidate for National League Rookie of the Year honors, went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI Wednesday and continues to rank among the NL leaders in hits (171, 3 rd ), runs (94, 3 rd ), doubles (39, T-2 nd ), total bases (288, 5 th ), batting average (.318, 3 rd ), multi-hit games (51, 2 nd ), extra-base hits (66, 6 th ) and slugging pct. (.536, 8 th ). Seager’s 24 home runs are the most ever by a Dodger shortstop and are the third most by a Los Angeles rookie, behind only Mike Piazza (35, 1993) and Joc Pederson (26, 2015). He already holds the Los Angeles record for doubles and runs scored by a rookie and currently has the highest on-base percentage by an LA rookie, while approaching the team single-season rookie leaders in most major offensive categories: Los Angeles Rookie Leaders, Since 1958 Category Seager (Rank) Leader Hits 171 (3 rd ) Sax (180, 1982) Runs 94 (1 st ) Seager Doubles 39 (1 st ) Seager Home Runs 24 (3 rd ) Piazza (35, 1993) Average .318 (T-1 st ) Piazza (.318, 1993) SLG .536 (2 nd ) Piazza (.561, 1993) OBP .378 (1 st ) Piazza (.370, 1993) Source: Stats, LLC THE LONGBALL: The Dodgers are averaging 1.21 home runs per game this year (168 HR/139 G), their most since 2004 (1.25 HR/G) and are on pace for the fourth-highest mark in Los Angeles history. Four Dodgers have powered 20+ home runs – Justin Turner (25), Yasmani Grandal (24), Corey Seager (24) and Joc Pederson (20) – marking just the seventh time in Los Angeles history and the first time since 2001 that four or more players have done so: 1977 (4), 1979 (5), 1997 (4), 1999 (4), 2000 (5), 2001 (4) and 2016 (4). Yasmani Grandal leads Major League catchers with a career- high 24 home runs, the most by an LA backstop (primary position) since Paul Lo Duca’s 25 homers in 2001. In 48 games since the All-Star break, the Dodgers rank among the Majors’ best in team batting average (.268, 6 th ), slugging percentage (.451, 5 th ) and runs per game (5.13, 3 rd ). The Dodgers’ slugging pct. is on pace to be the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break, outpacing the previous mark of .434 set in 2008. POSTSEASON FEVER: The minor league postseason got underway for three Dodger affiliates Tuesday, with Triple-A Oklahoma City hosting Nashville, Single-A Rancho Cucamonga taking on Lancaster and Single-A Great Lakes battling Bowling Green. Rookie-advanced Ogden, which clinched a playoff spot Wednesday and finished its regular-season last night, will face the Orem Owlz tonight to begin the postseason. After losing their first game of the series to Nashville, the OKC Dodgers tied the series up 1-1 with 5-2 victory last night. Logan Bawcom, who started last night’s contest, tossed 6.0 scoreless frames, allowing just one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Left-fielder, O’Koyea Dickson finished the night going 2-for-3, blasting his second home run of the postseason with a two-run shot to put the Dodgers up 3-1 in the third inning. The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took the loss last night against Lancaster in a high-scoring, 17-11 defeat, which evened the series, 1-1. Great Lakes started its postseason strong with a 15-1 victory in game one over Bowling Green. The Loons used four pitchers last night, combining to allow just one run on three hits with six strikeouts and did not issue a walk. RETURN OF THE ACE: Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw will return to the mound tonight after being reinstated from the 60-day disabled list with a mild disc herniation (retroactive to June 27) and will make his first start since June 26. In 16 starts this season, Kershaw has gone 11-2 with a 1.79 ERA (24 ER/121.0 IP) and limited the opposition to a .185/.205/.269 slashline. Prior to being placed on the disabled list, he led the Majors in WHIP (0.73), strikeouts (145), strikeout-to-walk ratio (16.11, 145 K/9 BB), innings pitched (121.0) and shutouts (3), while ranking among big league leaders in ERA (1.79, 2 nd ), wins (11, T-2 nd ), opponents’ batting average (.185, 5 th ) and strikeout per nine innings (10.79, 5 th ). Since Kershaw was placed on the DL, the Dodgers kept fighting as they held the second-best record in the Majors since June 27, going 38-24 (.613), behind only the Chicago Cubs 41-24 record (.631). Tonight’s starting pitching matchup between Kershaw and Jose Fernandez showcases two of the best pitchers in all of baseball, as they rank among the best in various categories. The last time that was accomplished in the Major Leagues was when the 2012 Oakland A’s did so from Sept. 9-12. Prior to that it hadn’t been accomplished in more than 80 years. Rookie starters De Leon, Maeda, Stripling, Stewart and Julio Urias have combined to go 23-18 with a 3.90 ERA (137 ER/316.1 IP) in 59 starts this season. DRE DAY ON THE HORIZON?: The Dodgers have had 27 players on the DL this year, which ties the 2012 Boston Red Sox for the most by a team since 1987 (Source: Stats, LLC). Andre Ethier (fractured right tibia) went 13-for-41 (.290) with four doubles, a homer and four RBI in ninr rehab games with Rancho Cucamonga. Ethier is headed to Miami and could be reinstated by the Dodgers as early as tonight. SWUNG ON AND MISSED…: On this date in 1965, Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax pitched the only perfect game in Dodger history as he struck out 14 in a 1-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers would like to wish a very happy birthday to bullpen catcher Rob Flippo today! Flippo is in his 15 th season with the Dodgers. Dodger Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully made the memorable call of that Koufax perfect game and in two weeks, Dodger fans can salute Vin as the club will honor its longtime voice on Friday, Sept. 23, prior to the game vs. Colorado with Vin Scully Appreciation Day. The festivities will include special guests, an on-field ceremony with Vin and his family, as well as a video tribute. For tickets, go to dodgrrs.com/lalovesvin.
