The UK and France are two very close neighbours. Calais and Dover are just 35 kilometres(about 21 miles) apart

Traditional meals:• The United Kingdom is well known all over
the world for fish and chips, France is of course famous for cheese and wine!
A common future. • Together, France and the United Kingdom
built the Channel Tunnel and Concorde, the first supersonic passenger jet. The Airbus is another great example of their cooperation.
Language• Modern French has its
origins with Greek and Latin,• Today, there are 63 nations
who speak French. French, as well as English, is one of the official language at the United Nations, in the European Union institutions and at the Olympic Games.
Geography• France is one of the largest
countries in western Europe. France is shaped roughly like a hexagon (six-sided figure) with three sides facing the sea and three land borders (Spain, Italy and Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium).

form the border with neighbouring countries: the River Rhine separates France and Germany, the French Alps form the border with Italy and the Pyrenees the frontier with Spain. Mont Blanc is the highest Mountain in France
France has hundreds of historical
monuments. One of the most famous is the
Palace of Versailles which was built under
the instruction of Louis XIV, often known as the Sun

The Arts• Since the end of the 19th
century, French artists have been pre-eminent in the development of modern painting. Artists such as Cézanne, Monet, Renoir, Gauguin, are world famous and most recognised for their Impressionist work, which attaches great importance to light in their painting.
The Arts• Cinematography or film
making was invented by the French Lumiere Brothers in 1895.
• One in three French people go to the cinema at least once a month!
Science• In France, Science and technology have, for a
very long time, been very competitive. The rabies vaccine was developed by French scientist Louis Pasteur in 1885, Pierre and Marie Curie discovered radioactivity and received the Physics Nobel Price in 1903.
• Since then, France has received a total of 26 Nobel Prices for Science
Sport• France hosts many sporting
events each year such as the Formula 1 grand Prix, the French Tennis Open, La Tour de France.
• It has of course some very famous football players!
