LOG 235 Curriculum Review 8 Oct 2010
LOG 235 Course Description
• Performance Based Logistics, DL portion, provides a dynamic, real time, learning environment oriented toward developing a range of logistics competencies. It challenges the student to review current policy and demonstrate an understanding of how early integration of performance-based support concepts into the system development process leads to achievement of DoD’s logistics goals. It is intended for mid-level logistics professionals needing skills required to excel in today’s demanding and dynamic product support environment
• LCL Level II Certification Online Course
• Number of Lessons/Hours: 17 lessons / 50 hours / Distance Learning – 60 Day period
• Target Attendees – LOG 235 is for military officers, O-3 and above; civilians, GS-9 and above; and industry
equivalents who are Level I certified in Life Cycle Logistics. Students should have 2 to 4 years of acquisition and/or logistics experience.
• Prerequisite(s) – LOG 235 has no required prerequisite courses. Students are expected to have life cycle
logistics experience and to be currently assigned, or expected to be assigned in the near future, to a life cycle logistics position.

Given instruction in initiating a Performance Based Logistics (PBL) implementation, recognize the basic tenets of PBL, the adaptability of the 12-step PBL model, the role of PBL in Total Life Cycle Systems Management (TLCSM), how to generate effective performance support metrics, how to form and lead a successful PBL team, and how to baseline the system.
Module 2. PBL-2 Planning
Given instruction in developing the Performance Based Logistics (PBL) support strategy, recognize how to generate effective performance outcomes, select the Product Support Integrator (PSI) that is the best fit for the program, and develop an effective workload allocation strategy and supply chain management strategy.
Module 3. PBL-3 Execution
Given instruction in the development of key Performance Based Logistics (PBL) documents, recognize how to establish successful Performance Based Agreements (PBAs), generate a useful Business Case Analysis (BCA), and construct effective PBL contracts.
Module 4. PBL-4 Control
Given instruction in the "control" Performance Based Logistics (PBL) activities, recall recommended PBL funding approaches, the function and key elements of the Performance Assessment Plan, and the Program Manager's responsibility to adjust the PBL support strategy as needed over the program's life.
Module 5. Support Options 1
Summarize the major factors influencing program support strategies when given the characteristics of sample acquisition and sustainment programs.
Module 6. Support Options 2
Describe the major components influencing PBL support strategies when given the characteristics of Performance-Based Logistics Support concepts.
