It’s cold outside and it’s raining. Inside it’s a Green Day. I’ll throw another log on the fire, mutter a thank you to A.S.A.P. Services for the firewood and fire off another travelog for River Diego. Then I’ll go out tonight and see some great live music. Why do you think I call this “Adventures in Paradise”? Tsunami free River Diego is coming off it’s wet winter even as you read this. There will be five weeks of perfect weather called March, and then it’ll get hot. Ya gotta love it.

Traveling through the northern reaches of the area a couple of weeks ago I stopped in to see the:

PRETTIEST SMILE - BRUNETTE - Lindsay at Whiskey Babe’s in Winchester. That’s the last thing I remember. The bands that are starting to play out this way are getting hot. Winchester was once what was known as a dry town. A post office, a train station and a feed store. No bars, no liquor stores and no grapes in sight. Any form of alcohol was against the law. Wyatt Earp was in his later years when his bootfallls rang out on the boardwalks of Winchester, or no doubt he would have found the town a bit boring. Times have changed. Now there’s music. Now there’s great food. Jeez there’s even art on the walls. Check out the “Cactus Calendar” in the coming months and get on out there. And all four Win-chester bars are Full Bars. V.F.W. Bruce Fulper was sitting in the night I was there. He’s got this band called Blues Alarm that needs more River Diego gigs for my enjoyment. the glass partitions. A beautiful, fleeting glimpse. Satelite took over and I was back inside, warm and thoroughly entertained. Satelite always puts on a great show and the music lasted into this year. I’ve heard reports that I did too. I’ll have to take their word for it and get my reservations for The Vinz Valentine’s party.

PRETTIEST SMILE BLONDE - Dakota at the Ponderosa Bar & Grill in Menifee. Dakota seems to be the name that works best at the Ponderosa, as there is also a beautiful brunette there named Dakota. Maybe in Dakota, California is a popular moniker amongst the ladies. All I know is one of my favorite bands, Eclipse, plays the Ponderosa often. Thus I find myself there often. Great Music every night, especially the Live Bands on the weekends. Open Mic on Thursdays too.

BEST BREAKFAST - The Aviator Breakfast at French Valley Cafe in Murrieta. It’s great watching the private jets take off and land out at the airport. The breakfasts are huge, and they are tasty at French Valley Cafe. I like to dress casual for breakfast and watch the folks getting in and out of those little jets without wrinkling their business suits. Hilarious. On friday nights there’s live music from 6pm to 9pm too.

If you ever got a chance to hear Marc play guitar, you’re one of the few to get the treat. I once wrote in these pages “He paints like he plays guitar.” I stand by that statement still. There’s a “Party on the Patio” for Landsharc at P.K.’s Roadhouse on Sunday February 19th during the Open Mic from 2pm to 6pm. We’ll have a few of Landsharc’s pieces there too. Come on down and visit with family and friends and hear some beautiful music.

BEST VOCAL PERFORMANCE - PIANO - Miles Denney at Temecula Valley Cheese Company in Old Town Temecula. Old Town Front Street at 5th Street, DOWNSTAIRS, next to Mur-rieta Creek and way in the back. Cool place. Miles is there on Wednesday night and with The Miles Denney Trio on Thursday night. “The American Songbook” is his stompin’ grounds. He stomps it. Very, very good voice and the piano comes alive under his digits. Standards. You’ll love it. There’s music six nights a week there. I’m hoping they’re saving Monday’s for The Cactus Bob Revue, or are we? Cheese and Wine and Beer and gourmet sandwiches and music and art on the walls. Awesome.

BEST COUNTRY SHOW - Crazy Creek at a private party you and I weren’t invited to. I crashed it anyway and had a great time. Chris is going to be learnin’ “Range War” by Todd Rundgren and polishin’ up on Hank’s “I’m So Lonesome I could Cry” so I can start sharing vocals with all of River Diego. Buck Owens isn’t heard enough around these parts and I guess Crazy Creek is trying to rectify the situation. I really do wish them luck. It can be done. Meanwhile they play the Country standards better than most. Crazy Creek was last month’s Best Country Show. This month too. Next month will be different, or not. I’ll be getting out more.

BEST ROCK & ROLL SHOW - New Year’s Eve with Satelite at Vinz in Historic Downtown Escondido. One drawback about a monthly magazine that comes out on the 1st of the month, is it’s Valentine’s Day by the time I can tell you about New Year’s Eve. And since I tend to write this stuff just before we go to print, I’ve forgotten most of that evening’s festivities already. I remember Reason 54 opening up to a rousing crowd that had gathered in the large rumpus room Vinz has for such large events. One guitar, and two voices as one. Perfect. I wandered throughout Vinz’s myriad of rooms filled with New Year’s rev-elers and twice saw “Window Woman” through one or two of

I was rummaging around the old storage unit the other day and came across copies of all of the past issues of The Cactus Bob Review. I sorted and stacked all day and came up with a good amount of complete sets including the glamorous color years of 2013 and 2014. I’m going to print up some limited edition numbered boxes and wrap up all 27 issues plus some bonus material that’s never been seen before in my magazine. The whole plethora of poetry and prose will cost $100 U.S. Dollars. The first eighteen sets will include a seat on the next Band Tasting Run coming up this spring in Winchester. There’ll be an ad in next month’s issue laying the whole thing out. I can hardly wait.
