The LinkedIn summary is arguably the most instrumental profile section for sales professionals who know how to use LinkedIn for attracting prospects and nurturing leads.

Use this buyer-centric example template to optimize your summary according to social selling best practices:

• Double check the public visibility of your profile summary.

• Talk to your prospects, not to recruiters.

• Showcase yourself as a subject matter expert and adviser.

• Communicate your willingness to help.

• Speak in 1st person to convey that you are approachable, transparent and human.

• Leverage keywords important to your buyer and the 2K character limit to fuel internal and external search results, as well as LinkedIn's algorithms.

• Break up monotonous text by incorporating bullet points, caps, horizontal lines and vertical lines.

• Be sure to include your contact information in the body of your summary.
