What is L.I.F.E.?

L.I.F.E. is the required course for physical education. It provides a blueprint for a lifetime of healthy living. Through this course, students apply the knowledge of the components of fitness in assessing their own fitness levels. By the end of the course, students know how to become fit for life!

L.I.F.E. is NOT a traditional physical education class composed only of sport units.

What is the main goal of the L.I.F.E. course?

Using a variety of health-enhancing physical activities to reinforce and apply fitness components and principles.

*Use a variety of sports and activities with limited rules to enhance the fitness components.

Student accountability will be measured daily through participation, EBZ, and/or pedometer count.

Examples: martial arts, dances, games, outdoor pursuits, individual and team sports

4. Identify short- and long-term health-enhancing benefits of physical activity.

Examples: lowering resting heart rate, reducing stress level, increasing metabolism, strengthening the immune system

• Explaining the relationship of physical, emotional, and cognitive factors that influence the rate of improvement in fitness performance

• Using selected assessments to modify an individualized fitness plan

Example: range of motion, skin fold, heart rate

• Applying principles of specificity, overload, frequency, intensity, time, and progression to physical activities

Examples: recording progress, selecting activities, arranging exercise, tracking progress

• Demonstrating a lifestyle that includes participation in physical activity on a consistent basis
