SUMMATION
As your reporter, my presence at the Biennial Awards judgment was tolerated in a spectatorial capaci ty. David Rinn is to be congratulated for the quiet eff iciency with which he handled the entire event.
I was impressed with the performance of this year's jury for its consistency and cooperat ive spiri t . It was not a prima donna performance but rather a synchronization of e f for t . They stressed consistency of performance in all aspects of design and remained faithful to their own established standards.
In a post judgment they praised the very high caliber of the sixty-one entries and the excellence of the photographic presentation. (We are fortunate In having such sensitive photographers available to us - Ed.).
They also requested that we make certain recommendations for future Awards Programs which would assist the jurors in arriving at decisions.
1. Property lines should be clearly demarked and adjacent buildings shown to establish this relationship.
2 . Floor plans should be presented at a larger scale for legibi l i ty, part icularly in apartment and mult i -bui lding projects.
3. A section through the building would help the jury to understand the project better.
4. Keying photographs to plan would be beneficial for the readabi l i ty.
5. A simple statement of the program and its specific problems, placed on the face of the presentat ion mount, would give assistance to the jury not only in understanding the project , but also in determining how well the architect has solved the specific problems.
As spectator, I would like to make a suggestion also; that more consideration be given to the mechanics of judgment. This year's jury struggled with poor l ight ing and glare, necessitating constant rearrangement of the exhibition in order to throw an equally favorable l ight on all projects. This, needless to say, was tiring for the jury and netted a lot of wasted mot ion and t ime. Perhaps a fixed lighting and a single sett ing may be the answer. A t any rate, we have two years to solve this mechanical problem.
Easily, our thanks are extended to all who par t ic ipated In making this year's event an outstanding one.

A a Gassidy point of view... A quick look at the Capitol Park Townhouses will convince you they're styled for convenient, modern living. And providing the perfect accent to the view of these fashionable homes are Fella Wood Sliding Glass Doors. Designed for years of reliable, trouble-free service, these handsome wood doors snugly keep out the elements, yet allow a beautiful view of that favorite outdoor area. For the past 35 years, we have been serving Washington architects and builders with a wide selection of quality building products. Cassidy Representatives are always available to assist you in determining the windows, doors and other products best suited for your needs. When planning your next project—be it townhouses, an office building or an industrial complex—call us. We'll show you the value of a Cassidy point of view.
