The supply of water in the households of Tlhabane is being interrupted, the Rustenburg Local Municipality has revealed. The interruption is being caused by a technical problem that the municipality says it will resolve as soon as possible. “Tlhabane Reservoir receiving water from Townlands Rand Water pump station is empty now due to a problem at Townlands caused by high voltage,” Lebo Makete, from the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s communications unit, told Leseding News.“This will affect Tlhabane and possibly Tlhabane West reservoirs, we would like to apologize to all affected residents’ for the inconvenience this has caused and we would like to assure you, that our technicians are working on resolving this problem. “We will advise as soon as the problem has

been resolved,” she explained. The municipality has advised residents to use water sparingly and wisely so that as many people as possible will be able to utilize the precious resource. During this time of the year, Rustenburg always faces a number of challenges that lead to water shortages across a number of its residential areas. At the beginning of October, the municipality effected water restrictions in the Rustenburg areas of Cashan, Safari Gardens, Boschdal, Protea Park and Kloof. Other areas that were affected included Bo-Dorp, Rustenburg CBD, Waterval, Wateval East, Azalea Park, Waterkloof, Marikana, Tlhabane, Tlhabane West and Geelhout Park. According to the municipality, the measures were caused by “high temperatures and dry weather” that was being experienced against “an increase in water consumption in Rustenburg”.

Rustenburg police have warned men in the area of a gang of women who trick them into offering accommodation for the night then spike their drinks and rob them."Police are appealing to men to refrain from inviting female strangers into their homes in a bid to curb the increasing cases of theft," said Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone. The "beautiful" women's modus operandi was to befriend lone men in shebeens and then tell them they had nowhere to stay for the night. The women targeted men who appeared to have money, smartphones, and flashy cars, and managed to inveigle themselves into a

night's accommodation at the man's house."When the victim wakes up a couple of hours later, they discover that the attractive women are gone and the properties are stolen," said Sabata. In three cases reported to police -- the most recent being last Sunday -- the men had said they were drugged and then cleaned out by the "sleek" women. In last week's case the women drugged a 43-year-old man at his home in Tlhabane and made off with his grey BMW X1, laptop, plasma television, iPad, and cellphones. The women were still at large.

WARNING: GANG OF WOMEN ‘TRICKSTERS’

Four police officers based in Tlhabane – who are being accused of robbery and extortion – will go on trial at the Rustenburg Magistrate Court following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on their matter. There was speculation that the four – Warrant Officer David Setshedi (52), and constables Joseph Moremi (31), Gladness Mogotsi (35) and Annah Mosweu (33) – would not be tried after indications that the complainant had agreed to withdraw the charges. However, on 31 October, Magistrate Samuel Maboho said the trial will proceed – in line with recommendations from the (DPP). “This matter will carry on because this is what the DPP has instructed,” Maboho said. “The trial will proceed from 25 to 27 February 2015 so all four of you are cautioned to be in court at nine o’clock so that we can start proceedings promptly,” Mahobo added. “Your bail has, therefore, been extended and I advise you to make arrangements with your place of employment. “If you must, please take some leave days so that you will be available for the trial,” he further explained.

The four police officers were arrested on 3 January for allegedly robbing an Ethiopian man of an undisclosed amount of money. The incident allegedly occurred in the Karlien Park area of Zinniaville on 7 December last year. After the man reported the case to the police, it is alleged that the four asked another Ethiopian national to persuade the complainant to withdraw the case and offered to refund his money. The four officers were then arrested after they allegedly gave the complainant R10 000 before instructing him to leave Rustenburg and not to return to the police station. However, in a turn of events, the complainant reportedly agreed to drop the charges during an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedure. ADR refers to any means of settling disputes outside of the courtroom. However, any decision reached by the two parties will still have to be approved by the DPP. The decision by the DPP, however, means that the four police officers will have to stand trial with a ruling expected to decide whether or not they are guilty.

True to her name, lovely Beauty Masinga, aged 22, is our Leseding Girl of the Week.

Beauty, who was born in Tlhabane, has already shown that she has the potential to become successful in the modelling industry. She was recently crowned winner of the Miss North West College pageant that was held at the Rustenburg Civic Centre. Beauty says she was motivated by her mother to take part in modelling after she had completed her matric in 2011 at HF Tlou High Scool. She is planning to study Financial Management at Orbit FET College in Rustenburg.Models aged between 17 and 30, who are interested in appearing in this space, are requested to phone 014 597 9980

Malao tells local storyIn what will be a major breakthrough for the local film industry, a feature film featuring two nationally renowned actors will be shot at various locations in Rustenburg. “Dimpho” – a feature film that focuses on the experiences of a delinquent matric student – is being produced by Kea Malao, who has played an active role in organising the Bojanala Film Festival.According to Malao, the shooting of the film is expected to be completed by early December. The film will feature Jabulani Khubeka and Israel Makoe – both actors in the popular television series (Zine 14) – and will be directed by Mike Motaung. “Basically, the storyline of the film revolve around a girl who is in her matric year. She is very wayward in terms of her lifestyle but quickly realises that she has a calling to become a sangoma,” explained Malao, in an interview with Leseding News.“This puts her in a very challenging space, because the two lifestyles do not mix. The film then takes us through the challenges that she faces as a result of her predicament. I believe that many people will find the film very entertaining,” added Malao. Besides the fact that scenes of the film will be shot at Mogwase, Luka and other local areas, what is encouraging is that a number of the actors will also come from Rustenburg. “We had auditions from 19 to 20 October and I must say that we were very impressed with the amount of talent that we

have here in Rustenburg. “The auditions were very encouraging and we are happy that most of the characters that will be in the film will be from Rustenburg. “We are promoting local talent and this is very important to some of us who would like to see the arts industry in Rustenburg developing,” Malao said. “There is a lot of enthusiasm for acting in this area but we also noticed that a number of people are not aware of the differences between stage acting and acting for film. “Nonetheless, it was exciting and we will also be incorporating the music of local artists in the soundtracks that will be used in the film.”Malao hopes that the film will be ready to be showcased by 7 December. “We are working with very strict deadlines and the aim will be to finish everything before 7 December. We are on track because we are working with people who are very professional when it comes to their work.” It is Malao’s aim for the film to be shown at various international festivals. “If everything goes according to plan,

we are hoping that the film will be shown in France and Scotland, besides South Africa of course. ““We will then hand it over to the broadcasters for a possible television release. We are working hard to make sure that everything goes according to plan. “The production of this film is a major project and will have far reaching effects on the development of the arts industry in Rustenburg. “We hope that by making films here, we will go a long way in proving that artists do not have to go to Johannesburg to be able to make a living out of their art,” Malao pointed out.

Doubts over Rustenburg festival

This year’s Rustenburg International Music and Lifestyle festival might not take place as organizers of the event wait for a green light from the mayor to go ahead with the showcase. The inaugural edition of the festival – which was held last year from 28 – 30 November – did not live up to its billing and had to be called off after an unexpected strong wind and storm ruined the show. During its launch last year, the festival was billed to “become the highlight on the city’s social and cultural calendar, the not-to-be-missed event that will bring together music

and art lovers from all over the country.” However, the Rustenburg Local Municipality could neither deny nor confirm that the festival will go ahead as planned this year. “We will first have to get a directive from the mayor before we can go ahead with the festival. We are waiting for him to get back to us on the issue,” Lebo Makete

from the Rustenburg Local Municipality’s communications department told Leseding News. “There is not much else I can say on this issue,” she added. The launch of the festival last year created a lot of excitement, especially among upcoming artists who were also hoping to gain exposure from an event of such a magnitude. Among some of the notable artists that took part in last year’s festival were renowned international musician Salif Keita, Ringo Madlingozi and HHP.

PLATINUM PEOPLE

Motlalepula MalebeMotlalepula “Rubza” Malebe is making a name for herself as a radio presenter for Modiri FM, which broadcasts in the Lichtenburg area of the Ditsobotla municipality.

From midnight to around three o’clock in the morning every Monday to Friday – when the majority of people are fast asleep – Rubza offers valuable advice to a number of her listeners on various issues that affect couples. She has struck a strong chord of understanding with her listeners, who are always eager to tune in and listen to the subject that she will be discussing on a given day. “My show, really, explores a whole range of issues – mainly related to how couples get along with each other,” Motlalepula said, in an interview with Leseding News. “We can talk about sexual education, issues to do with the bedroom, health issues and how people can cure themselves from the various ailments that they might be suffering from. I enjoy my work and the response that my show has been receiving is very overwhelming,” she added. She also does match making for people who may be looking for “soul mates”. “I do soul sessions where couples come and enjoy their moments on dimmed lights, it is a unique experience. I also do match making where a person seeking

a lady can meet their match. This is really fun and popular among our listeners,” she added. With Modiri FM reaching around 400 000 listeners, Motlalepula said she is well aware of the responsibilities that she carries when communicating to such a wide audience. She said: “Radio is exciting because we reach a lot of people through our programmes. With this reach, however, there is a lot of responsibility because we influence a lot of people. “I love radio because through this medium we are able

to educate, advice and entertain a wide range of people. If you want to be a good radio presenter you must have time for your listeners, inside and outside of the studio. “You must also be knowledgeable in a number of areas so this means that you must do a lot of research on a daily basis. Creativity is also very important. A presenter must be original because you will not get anywhere in this industry if you thrive on copying others.” To her listeners, Motlalepula is known as “The Platinum Voice” as she makes her way into their homes every day.But how does she see herself in five years’ time? “Everybody’s dream is to work for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) but I have a different goal altogether,” she explained. “I want to see myself managing a community radio station that I would have started. This is my dream. I believe I have the attributes and I will work very hard until I have realised my dreams,” she added.

Away from her work, Motlalepula describes herself as a down to earth person who enjoys spending quality time with her family. “I am very humble-down-to-earth lady who advises and motivates people everywhere I go. Most of the time the community invites me to be a Program-Director in different events including galas, parties and other functions. “I like speaking out my mind but I am very approachable and I can make friends easily,” she said. She places a lot value to her family. “I have a husband and three children, my daughter Katleho and my two boys Tshimologo and Keketso. They are a pillar of strength to me and I would like to thank them for the supports that they have shown me in my career,” she explained.

ABI pumps R10m into recycling initiativeAmalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI) will award over R250 000 this year in prizes to the best performing schools, educators and partners in its Schools Recycling Programme.Over the past three years ABI’s school recycling programme saw over 350 000 children and 11 000 teachers benefit from the programme, making it a key recycling drive in South Africa. The ABI schools recycling programme not only provides a waste management solution in schools, but teaches children to become accountable for their environment. More than 650 tonnes of recyclable material (plastic bottles, cans and paper) has been collected by participating schools since the start of the program. This is equivalent to 4030 cubic metres of landfill space saved. The awards ceremony, which is to be held at ABI’s Midrand Manufacturing plant, will see prizes being handed out to schools with the best dedication to recycling, giving them much needed recognition with tangible rewards, showing the children that it indeed pays to go green..During the adjudication process to decide on the winning schools, ABI judged the schools not only on the waste volumes collected, but also the involvement of their community, innovation in using recyclable material, as well as the motivation of children to participate. The schools had until 31 October to complete their submissions, showing how they have

made the programme a success in their school. The best recycling school wins a prize of R50 000, the first runner up wins R30 000 and the second runner up wins R20 000. The top 10 eco-champions in schools receive rewards of R3 500 each. Cash prizes are used on infrastructure development projects to benefit the schools. The infrastructural needs are awarded as expressed by the schools.“A programme of this nature has the potential to change social behaviour towards responsible waste management, create more jobs and create ownership and awareness amongst communities,” said Itumeleng Matlaila, Corporate Affairs Manager at ABI.“The ABI Schools Recycling Programme is about children having fun whilst learning about serious environmental issues. Every South African child needs to be made aware of how waste and litter is damaging our country and our planet,” said Matlaila. “Our programme aims to make recycling a culture in schools, educate learners about the importance of recycling, incentivise teachers and parents to recycle, empower grassroots entrepreneurs and create awareness in communities.”Apart from the annual prizes, ABI also awards bi-monthly prizes to the value of R160 000, throughout the competition period, such as laboratory equipment, soccer and netball kits, arts and culture uniforms, gardening supplies as well as printers and tablets.

Mohono hails Bakgatla ba Kgafela tourism venturesThe North West government is calling on all businesses involved in tourism to join hand with the tourism department in order to make the North West a preferred tourist destination and contribute positively to the local and national economy. This is according to the Tourism MEC Desbo Mohono during a recent Tourism Stakeholder Engagement session held as part of the 20 years celebration of developmental achievements by the Bakgatlha ba Kgafela tribal administration in Moruleng. According to MEC Mohono, the Agriculture, Culture and Tourism sectors have been identified as the three pillars of economic development and job creation in the North West Province. “We will be embarking on tourism makgotla across the province in order to identify potential opportunities with specific focus on village tourism products. This will ultimately assist government to achieve its intended goal of economic development and job creations,” said Mohono. Mohono further encouraged the Bakgatla administration to consider reviving other old activities that attracted local tourism such as Sedibelo Cultural festival, and also identify other old monumental buildings such as the now refurbished local church which is said to be over 125 years old. She said that the gesture will attract popular international and national annual events. “We need to package the rich cultural background of the Bakgatla in such a way

that we are able to sell and market it to the international communities,” she said. MEC Mohono further encouraged the youth to venture into tourism as the industry is also a viable in job creation. She endorses the achievements by the rich tribal council in the past 20 years of freedom and democracy.Meanwhile, the king of the Bakgatla ba Kgafela, Nyalala Pilane said that his administration is prepared work together with government in branding and marketing cultural, religious, mining and health tourism products in his villages.

NWPTB REPORT “A SLAP ON OUR FACE”

The North West Parks and Tourism Board (NWPTB) report to the portfolio committee on Tourism has been discarded as “a slap on our face.”The board had a date with the committee on Tuesday 28 October 2014 where it was expected to present its 2013/14 financial year report. The committee chaired by Hlomane Chauke was expecting answers on among others things maladministration that occurred during 2013/14 financial year, the R12 million that disappeared and has not been accounted for and on unvarying refusal of the board to submit their financial statements according to the brief given by the Auditor General.Interestingly, however, all board members failed to show up to answer to the alleged rot with none of them giving written apologies for their absence. The much anticipated report was, according to sources,

expected to shed light on the startling extent of the rot at NWPTB.Now this has infuriated the committee. In a strong worded statement released to the press, the committee expressed its disappointment and discontent at the board for not honoring the appointment.“This is a slap on our face, and our level of intelligence will not be undermined and allow such disrespect to this committee,” said MEC Motlalepule Rosho, a member of the committee.Rosho added:”It is very worrying to see money getting pumped into this department, and shifting of funds happening with none to account on those funds.” Committee Chairperson, Chauke said MEC’s would not leave their busy schedules only to be “embarrassed” and “undermined” by administrators placed in the departments. The committee resolved not to continue with the meeting without the board and the CEO, Allan Losaba to answer to widespread rot at the entity. And to ensure that its date show up this time around, the committee is considering issuing summons to force the board members to show up.“We are considering issuing summons to force them to appear before the committee,” Chauke revealed to Leseding News in an exclusive interview.Hlomani said administrators cannot expect to commit criminal offenses without any accountability.Tourism has been identified by premier, Supra Mahumapelo as one of the pillars of the province economy.Addersing board staff member in September this year, Mahumapelo said: “We have sensibly identified tourism as one of the three key economic pillars in the Province, and this calls for focused packaging of superior tourism products, which must help us realise the goals of the already conceptualised strategy on rebranding, repositioning and renewal of the Province.” Mahumapelo challenged NWPTB employees to play their part in promoting domestic tourism and black economic empowerment, saying these activities remain central to the envisaged growth of the provincial economy to 6% by 2019.Meanwhile speculations doing the rounds are that the board will be dissolved. “It’s just a matter of time,” said a source privy to the development. Attempts to get hold of either the board chairperson or the CEO for comment reached a blank.

Mahumapelo lauds DBSA MOU

Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government and the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to commence collaboration on funding for infrastructure development. The signing which Premier Supra Mahumapelo described as one that is critical in pursuing the objectives of the National Development Plan and the conceived strategy to Rebrand, Reposition and Renew the Province, was done on 1 November. Mahumapelo said this MoU is a practical expression of the Bokone Bophirima government’s firm resolve to join forces with other stakeholders to radically deal with challenges such as infrastructure backlog for roads, water, electricity and housing. “As a means to primarily implement the objectives of the National Development Plan, this process will contribute greatly towards the attainment of the Province’s set economic growth to 6% by 2019, thus enabling us to progressively overcome the triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality. By signing this MoU,” Mahumapelo said. “We have committing ourselves as partners who share the same mission, to assertively face the challenges before us and ensure that the lives of the people in Bokone Bophirima Province are changed for the better”.DBSA Chief Executive Officer, Patrick Dlamini acceded that this MoU signals the two parties’ intent to provide better services, saying the institution will work tightly with the Province to successfully achieve this goal which is also expressed and stressed in the National Development Plan.“We are excited because the infrastructure development approach we are planning for Bokone Bophirima Province will soon be used as a model for the country, an approach which challenges all of us to up our game in an effort to ensure that the citizens enjoy their rights to access better services,” Dlaminin said. Dlamini said while the infrastructure development projects for Bokone Bophirima Province could not be quantified at present, it is expected that the funding which will be guided by the province’s needs, will be huge. The Executive Mayor of the Rustenburg Local Municipality Cllr Mpho Khonou’ who also attended the signing ceremony, welcomed the move as a step in the right direction.

Who will replace [email protected] Farirayi Kahwemba

Brilliant Khuzwayo and Siyabonga Mpontshane were called up as possible replacements for the late Bafana Bafana skipper Senzo Meyiwa recently, when Shakes Mashaba announced South Africa’s squad for their remaining two 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.“The replacement of Senzo is a two-pronged issue — one as a goalkeeper and two as captain, and both will have to be decided before we play our first match,” coach Mashaba said.“We will have a good look at the players who will be in camp and we will make a decision at the right time.“It will not be an easy thing to replace Senzo in both positions, but we will do our best to find a suitable replacement and life has to go on.“We are also confident that whoever takes over, one or two of those roles will be able to deliver.”South Africa play against Sudan this weekend before travelling to Nigeria for their last group match on November 19 at the newly-built Ibo International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.Originally scheduled to take place in Nelspruit, the fixture against Sudan was moved to Moses Mabhida Stadium in honour of Meyiwa, who was born in Umlazi, south of Durban.Meyiwa was shot dead last Sunday in Vosloorus while visiting his singer and actress girlfriend Kelly Khumalo. Two people

allegedly entered the house and demanded cellphones before fleeing.“We went through a very hectic period following the passing on of Senzo,” Mashaba said. “This will be the first time we meet since this tragedy befell us but we just have to accept and move forward. I don’t think it is going to be a gloomy period in camp, we can only hope this is over and start marching on.“We will play for him as he did a sterling job towards this team’s qualification, so we need to carry the baton and ensure we qualify for Morocco 2015.”The Bafana Bafana mentor said his charges were aware of the importance of the two Afcon matches. “We need people who are going to compete as we know that the last two games are very crucial.“After playing Sudan, we face Nigeria — and here it’s not just about the three points, it is also about pride as Nigeria would not want to lose to us, but I believe it is our time to defeat them.” Khuzwayo and Mpontshane were among six new faces for the game in Durban against Sudan. The new additions included May Mahlangu, Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Luvolwethu Mpeta and Lehlohonolo Majoro.Bafana currently top group A’s standings and remained in pole position to qualify for next year’s continental showpiece.A win against Sudan would guarantee Bafana’s place at the Cup of Nations.

IN WITH A CHANCE: Siyabonga Mpontshane from Platinum Stars in the Bafana Bafana squad

Freese demands more from MalokasePlatinum Stars coach Allan Freese is urging striker Patrick Malokase to up the ante by working harder towards commanding a regular place in the team’s starting lineup. Malokase used to play regularly in the team after moving to the Rustenburg-based side from Orlando Pirates two seasons ago. He was a key figure of the team that won the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout trophies under Cavin Johnson. This season, however, the player has found the going tough and the recent arrival of Eleazar Rodgers from Mamelodi Sundowns has made the competition for starting places stiffer. Freese told Leseding News that while Malokase may not be enjoying his best form at the moment, the player’s experience will be vital to the club, especially when the season reaches its decisive stages. “If a player does well, then the coach expects him to maintain that standard. That is the way he is. He [Malokase] can player better and he must push harder and harder and show that he is the player that we all know,” Freese said. “He is not at his best at the moment but this is what happens with players sometimes.

In some matches, they play well and then sometimes they go off form. A player must be consistent to get a regular nod. “Patrick knows he can do better. He is a professional player so I expect him to work harder to reach his highest levels,” adds the Dikwena coach. “His strength is his experience. He has played a lot of matches at his level.” Malokase, who made his PSL debut in 2006, played for Free State Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic and Orlando Pirates before moving to Platinum Stars. Freese admitted, however, that it will take more than one player to improve the fortunes of the team in the League chase. Platinum Stars, who are currently 13th on the log with eight points, will meet Orlando Pirates on Tuesday at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace. “Look, everyone has to pull up their socks because we are not doing well in the League. We are not on the position that we should be on the log and everyone has to take the blame for this.“The idea was to break into the top five before December but this will be very difficult now. We must start winning our matches so that we climb up the log table,” the coach explains.
