What is a Pergola?A pergola is an outdoor structure comprised of wood, vinyl or aluminum and used to define an outdoor space with select variations of shade or privacy. Pergolas are also a practical solution for protecting a homeowner's outdoor space from direct contact with the elements.
How are they typically used? A pergola can be either free-standing or attached to your home over a patio or deck. Attached pergolas function more as an extension of your home and extend out directly from the wall of your house, usually centered over a patio door that opens up to your outdoor living space. A homeowner can install a free-standing pergola just about anywhere, including patios, decks, yards, and gardens.
