KIDSALBANY – Community Re-source Federal Credit Union recently gave away 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to school age chil-dren in the Sheridan Hollow neighborhood. Employees also handed out 40 gift bags to pre-school age children. “School supplies, which can cost $75 to $100, are simply too expensive for these fami-lies to buy for their children. We provide the backpacks and school supplies so the kids can start school with the basic tools they need to be successful students,” said Wendy Meola, Director of Marketing for Commu-nity Resource Federal Credit Union. Community Resource Federal Credit Union works with Interfaith Partner-ship for the Homeless year-round, raising money for its programs and helping with the Summer Youth Program and Holiday Meal.

They talk openly about the teasing they face from classmates and how their stuttering sometimes makes them feel about themselves. The housing market has be-gun to heat up thanks to an economy on the rebound. Few people aspire to rent for life, and home ownership is a dream shared by both na-tives and immigrants who came to the country seeking a better life.

Each year the National Asso-ciation of Realtors compiles a profi le of buyers and sell-ers that documents trends in the real estate market. Al-though the majority of fi rst-time home buyers identify as white, the next largest group are Hispanics, who account for 11 percent of the market of fi rst-time home buyers.

The rapidly growing Hispanic population is infl uencing all areas of modern living, in-cluding real estate. Estimates suggest that, between now and 2020, Hispanics, the sec-ond largest ethnic group in America, will account for 50 percent of new home buyers.

Over the last three decades, two of every fi ve newcomers to the housing market were Hispanic, according to the

National Association of His-panic Real Estate Profession-als. In addition to needing as-sistance fi nding their dream homes, Hispanic buyers also may need help securing loans to fi nance their upcom-ing home purchases.

In the future, cars may not be built and assembled at automotive warehouses and factories full of automated robots. They may be the product of more effi cient manufacturing thanks to 3D printing, which can pro-duce relatively inexpensive, light and effi cient automo-biles. One pioneer, Jim Kor, founder of the Urbee 2, a 3D-printed vehicle, made a three-wheel, two-passenger vehicle with plastic through Fused Deposition Modeling, or FDM. This involves spray-ing molten polymer layer by layer to build the car chas-sis. The entire car, which is roughly 10 feet long, took about 2,500 hours to build. What would normally be several pieces of metal and other components in a tradi-tional car is now made from fewer and larger pieces that result in a lighter vehicle.
