Answers to 5 Frequently Asked Questions About Whip Mix Articulators

Are Whip Mix Articulators interchangeable and why is having an articulator that is interchangeable important to me?

Yes. With the exception of the original Model #8500 Articulator, all Whip Mix semi-adjustable articulators feature the “ACCUMOUNT” system of interchangeability, which makes them interchangeable within like series. The accuracy of interchangeability is within 101 microns.

Cost savings. There is no need to purchase several articulators for your practice/laboratory. Using an articulator that is interchangeable allows you to exchange mounted casts between like articulators without loss of accuracy. Only the mounted casts need to be sent between the doctor’s offi ce and the laboratory. There is an additional saving in shipping cost for the weight of the articulator being sent back and forth between the doctor’s offi ce and the laboratory. Finally, you would eliminate repairs that are a result of the articulator being damaged in transit between the offi ce and laboratory.

Do you have an accessory that allows me to make a custom incisal guide table that’s also reusable?

Yes, the Dovetail Incisal Block. During the wax-up procedure on the mounted stone casts, the laboratory technician or dentist may have to move the casts through frequent excursive movements on the articulator to check the positioning of the wax to ensure ideal occlusion is achieved. During this procedure wearing away of the stone casts is likely. To prevent this unwanted wear, a custom incisal guide table made out of auto polymerising acrylic resin should be fabricated either on the fl at plastic Incisal Guide Table that comes with the articulator (but is disposable) or on our metal Dovetail Incisal Block (which you can reuse).

Can I convert my articulator over to the magnetic system? If so, how?

Many semi-adjustable articulators on the market can be retrofi tted to use the Quick Mount Magnetic System. To see a full list of articulators that can be retrofi tted, please click here. Converting your articulator to the QuickMount Magnetic System can easily be done by following the detailed instructions in the technical support section of whipmix.com.

Do I need to use a face-bow to use an

articulator? No you do not. However, it is recommended to provide as much patient information as possible when reproducing the patient’s occlusion. Taking a face-bow is not diffi cult or time consuming, as seen here. Another option, if not taking a face-bow, would be to use a mounting platform to get casts at Bonwills Equilateral Triangle.

How can I tell if my articulator is out of alignment?

Fortunately Whip Mix Articulators are extremely durable. With normal care and maintenance you will probably never need to have it re-calibrated. However, in the unfortunate event that it gets damaged due to being dropped or knocked off the workbench, you may need to send it back for re-calibration.

A quick and easy way to check for damage would be to do the following: look for any parts on the articulator that appear bent (i.e. brass face-bow mounting pins, incisal guide pin, or incisal guide pin screw). Set the right and left side shift guides to the 10 degree mark on the Model #2340, 3000, and 4000 Series Articulators, and set the side shift guide to the zero mark on the Model #2240Articulator; release the centric latch and elastic straps if available on your model; check to see if there is any side-to-side movement of the upper member. If you detect any movement it is possible that damage has occurred.

Another way to verify if damage has occurred is to remove the plastic incisal guide table from the articulator. With the side shift guides locked in place as described above, lock the centric latch to secure the upper member. Then, lower the incisal pin slightly and secure it. Check to see if the incisal guide pin will slide freely through the slot on the lower member of the articulator. If the pin hits the lower member or rubs the inside of the slot, this may be an indication that the articulator is out of alignment. You can also use the new Whip Mix Verifi cation Gage System. The verifi cation gage system allows you to verify the height for fl atness and allows you to verify and calibrate the lateral and anterior/posterior.

The ideal tool for your dental lab.

Our precision welding equipment has undergone constant development and has been consistently tailored to meet the special welding requirements of the dental industry. The highest degree of functionality has been combined with outstanding design. The result is a pre-cision welder that is not only suitable for everyday use, but which also optically

So the exact positioning of small, stable spot-welds, or of welds in hard-to-get-to or deep lying positions, poses no problem. The area of the work piece that is affected by heat, is very small when working with the DENTA PUK. So small in fact, that problem free welds adjacent to veneers and resin saddles can be handled with ease.

The DENTA PUK allows you to adjust power and impulse time to suit the users’ individual needs. This enables an exact control of the size and depth of the weld. The DENTA PUK offers users

ibility and freedom of movement, as it needs no welding box. The hand-piece can be used “freehand”, in its stand, or in the microscope mounting arm, as it suits the user’s needs or requirements.

Our precision welding equipment puts a whole host of possible applications at

model casts, the repair of crowns and bridges, joints and constructions for the bases of model casts, as well as orthodontic applications are just a few of the examples. DENTA PUK allows the problem free adding of metal. Whether it’s fractures, pores and joints, with the aid of welding wire, material can simply be added and built up. Particularly suited to the welding process are cobalt-chrome alloys, all precious metal alloys, as well as stainless steel and titanium.

PUK WELDER SEMINAR REVIEW

ARTICLE

The Laboratory Division of Henry Schein Halas hosted

the second Lampert Laser Welder Roadshow in Australia

during March 2015. Due to popular demand we were able

to bring Claus Reith, Specialist Laboratory Technician and

Technical Trainer at Lampert, Germany back to Australia.

Claus travelled straight from IDS in Cologne, bringing

with him the latest technology from Lampert: The PUK D2

welder with newly launched, innovative electrodes and

chrome cobalt welding wire.

The second Australian Lampert roadshow took place in

Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and we

were overwhelmed with the response of customers who

attended at each venue. Claus Reith’s seminars catered for

customers who already have the PUK D2 Welding Device in

a ‘Master class’ to refine the techniques further. In addition

to that he also offered ‘Precision Welding Workshop’ for

complete beginners where he shows and instructs the

customers how to work with the PUK D2. All customers

walked away confidently with background knowledge for

PUK welding, practical training. Claus also shared some

special tricks to weld difficult applications.

Customers were especially impressed with the intuitive

operation of the PUK D2. The controller with its intuitive

user interface through the touch display, the welding

microscope and the rapid precision handpiece together

form a perfectly matched welding system. It‘s the

interaction between all of these elements that makes

reliable and reproducible welding possible – the perfect

device for every dental laboratory.

The technique of PUK welding is easy to learn. However,

customers should take enough time to familiarise

themselves with the device. Customers can use the

supplied stainless steel plates to practice material

application, play with the power and welding time

regulators or weld a clean joint. Change the electrode‘s

angle to the workpiece and see what happens. With a little

practice, customers will achieve very good results very

quickly.

If you have missed out on this year’s Precision Laser

Welding workshops, please contact your friendly

With the „VITA MFT“ denture teeth for universal application, the laboratory can implement an efficient aesthetic and functional concept. On account of their specifically developed morphology, the teeth are easy to set up and feature a natural appearance. Further-more, their opalescence, fluorescence and trans-lucency facilitate the achievement of good anterior aesthetics. The streamlined assortment of moulds simplifies tooth selection for the laboratory‘s particular case. These acrylic denture teeth are suitable for all prosthodontics applications.

The name „MFT“ stands for „Multifunctional Teeth“. This multifunctional concept comprises both anteriors and posteriors in a single tooth line (fig. 1), and also ensures universal application and compatibility with all current setup methods. It covers the areas of both conventional and implant-borne complete dentures as well as partial and telescopic dentures.

The teeth are easy to set up: they find their centric position, as it were, all by themselves („Easy cent-ric concept“). This refers in particular to an exactly calculated cusp-fossa relationship, the flatter cuspal inclination and the preabraded occlusal surfaces. This occlusal design also permits the efficient lingualised setup which minimises horizontal shear forces. That stabilises the prosthesis during the process of masti-cation and increases its longevity.

Efficiency in the dental laboratory is furthermore ensured by the lean mould assortment comprising the categories oval, triangular and square in addition to equidistant size distribution of the teeth sets. This enables quick selection of the appropriate teeth set. The patients thus benefit from this mould assortment design, since it supports natural dental harmony and phonetics, even in the case of a difficult anatomical situation prior to treatment.

Shade selection is equally fast. Eight tooth shades are available, based on the VITA System 3D-Master with its equidistant distribution of shades within natural tooth colour space. Classification tables to the VITA classical A1-D4 system are also given for the benefit of new users. Furthermore, the three-layer structure, in addition to the opalescence, fluorescence and translucency and the lifelike surface structure in the anterior area ensure a high standard of aesthetics following nature‘s model. The convex labial structure supports the lip contour and restores the harmony of the patient‘s facial profile. The broadened cervical area facilitates age-appropriate design of the papilla. This has the advantage that the patient can quickly accept and identify with the new prosthesis.

Laboratories using VITA MFT can benefit from the time-saving working steps and the high degree of pro-ductivity. Thanks to the excellent function of the pro-sthesis and the high-quality red and white aesthetics, technicians can ensure the satisfaction of their dentist customers (fig. 2). The patient‘s natural appearance is restored. Along with restored chewing comfort, this gives the patient renewed quality of life.

Bonding Agent for Acrylic Teeth

Vitacoll ensures reliable bonding of acrylic teeth to denture base materials. Since a wide range of diffe-rent denture base materials is used, it is frequently difficult for the responsible dental technician to determine whether these materials provide perfect bonding to the acrylic teeth available. By using Vitacoll, the required certainty is ensured.

The use of VITACOLL Bonding Agent results in reliable chemical bonding of acrylic teeth to hot and cold curing polymerises and prevents teeth from breaking out of the denture base

Fortunately Whip Mix Articulators are extremely durable.

With normal care and maintenance you will probably never

need to have it re-calibrated. However, in the unfortunate

event that it gets damaged due to being dropped or

knocked off the workbench, you may need to send it back

for re-calibration.

A quick and easy way to check for damage would be to

do the following: look for any parts on the articulator that

appear bent (i.e. brass face-bow mounting pins, incisal

guide pin, or incisal guide pin screw). Set the right and

left side shift guides to the 10 degree mark on the Model

#2340, 3000, and 4000 Series Articulators, and set the

side shift guide to the zero mark on the Model #2240

Articulator; release the centric latch and elastic straps if

available on your model; check to see if there is any side-

to-side movement of the upper member. If you detect any

movement it is possible that damage has occurred.

Another way to verify if damage has occurred is to remove

the plastic incisal guide table from the articulator. With

the side shift guides locked in place as described above,

lock the centric latch to secure the upper member. Then,

lower the incisal pin slightly and secure it. Check to see if

the incisal guide pin will slide freely through the slot on the

lower member of the articulator. If the pin hits the lower

member or rubs the inside of the slot, this may be an

indication that the articulator is out of alignment. You can

also use the new Whip Mix Verification Gage System. The

verification gage system allows you to verify the height for

flatness and allows you to verify and calibrate the lateral

and anterior/posterior.

UNIFAST III

Introducing SURF technology for superior aesthetics and strength

An increasing demand for aesthetic long term temporary crowns and bridges stimulated the development of SURF technology. Surface Uniformity Revolutionary Fixation technology is a processing technique that creates polymer particles which are coated with pigment. This technology means more aesthetic, even-coloured and bubble-free restorations can be created and has allowed GC to focus on developing a perfectly balanced formulation with unsurpassed handling, strength and wear resistance.

The pigments gather at the outer edge, causing a mottled appearance.

The polymers are coated with pigments, enabling a uniform mixture.

Superior aesthetics

The specimens were made using a brush-on technique and observed through transmitted light. With conventional technology, the uneven colour can be seen on the boundary between each brush imprint, whereas UNIFAST III shows an exceptional even-coloured mixture.
