Thehinge with2 centresofrotation develops rotationsimultaneously around2 centresof rotation leading to an inversely cyclical trajectory. With this hinge, during the first 25° of flexion, the central axis placed in correspondence with the initial centre of rotation, carries out anterior translation. Itrotatesarou ndtheaxisplacedonthe periph eralcent erofrotationandsimula tes anterior sliding of the head of the femur. After 25° the centre of rotation “skips” toa centralaxisdetermining arotation whichcontinuesuntil themaximum degrees of flexion. Thus there is a translation-rotation movement. 0 30° 690° 110° 0 30° 60° 90° 110° 0 30° 690° 110° X 1 y Y 1 From the beginning of flexion, the hinge tracing tends to move backwards with regard to the radiological profile. Towards maximum flexion the hinge tracing is actually behind and below the flat articulator surfaces of the tibia. Y Y 1 -X 1 X Y - Y 1 X 1 X Y 1 Y X 1 X A correct movement is maintained until 30-35 0 of flexion. Beyond that the hinge tracing tends to move vertically (Y1) away from the radiological profile of the knees physiological trajectory.
