According to Kouga Municipality spokes- person Mfundo Sobele, the past festive season was the busiest they had in a long time. “Accommodation establishments across Kouga were fully booked since the begin- ning of November. Most continued to be ful- ly booked well into the new year,” says So- bele. “We experienced a longer festive season this past year, with the matrics leading the way from the beginning of December making Kouga their tourism destination of choice. This has been a trend over the past two years due to Kouga’s geographical outlay, with ev- erything close by, which suits the younger generation without transport.” According to Sobele, on the down side, the three-day power outage was a serious incon- venience for all concerned. “We treated the matter as a disaster and all our departments and relevant stakeholders got together to work towards a solution.” Sobele says although this impacted nega- tively mostly on accommodation establish- ments with visitors cancelling the rest of their stay and leaving town, these spaces were rapidly filled by a large number of people in need of accommodation. “We still had people from other areas in Kouga until the end of last week, so there is no truth in the majority of visitors leaving due to the power outage. By New Year’s Eve, our towns were hives of activity, as many peo- ple came back to enjoy Kouga’s offerings,” he says. Neels Visser from the Kouga Business Fo- rum, says that Kouga experienced a good holi- day season despite the various problems expe- rienced over this period. “Accommodation was fully booked for the high season, to such an extent that inquiries had to be turned away,” says Visser. “Large businesses and the larger restau- rants all showed better figures than the pre- vious year. This can be attributed to good planning, advertising and preparation. “Smaller businesses’ success varied. This is due to the problems caused by defects in the infrastructure.” According to Visser, the power supply and sewage problems undoubtedly had a nega- tive effect on the town and some visitors - both in the short term and long term poten- tial. “No major exodus of visitors has occurred, and the subdued atmosphere flared up again once the power supply was restored,” says Visser. “The Kouga Business Forum will take up this issue with the municipality to ensure that proper contingency plans exist and are implemented in the future.” On the retail front, the festive cheer also kept tills ringing. The Jeffreys Bay Tourism office reported that the retail industry experienced a big boost, with sales far exceeding expecta- tions. According to Nadine Scheepers, Fountains Mall marketing manager, although foot traf- fic this festive season was the same as the per- vious year, there was a positive growth in sales over this period. “Despite the power outage, Fountains Mall was not directly affected as we have genera- tors which enabled all our stores to trade as normal,” says Scheepers. LTHOUGH the festive season spend

    might have left many cash-strapped,

    Kouga business owners received a

    welcome boost to their coffers.

    According to Kouga Municipality spokes-

personMfundo Sobele, the past festive season

was the busiest they had in a long time.

    Accommodation establishments across

Kouga were fully booked since the begin-

    bele.

We experienced a longer festive season

this past year, with the matrics leading the

way from the beginning of December making

Kouga their tourism destination of choice.

This has been a trend over the past two years

due to Kougas geographical outlay, with ev-

erything close by, which suits the younger

    generation without transport.

According to Sobele, on the down side, the

three-day power outage was a serious incon-

venience for all concerned. We treated the

matter as a disaster and all our departments

and relevant stakeholders got together to

    work towards a solution.

Sobele says although this impacted nega-

    tively mostly on accommodation establish-

ments with visitors cancelling the rest of

their stayand leaving town, these spaceswere

rapidly filled by a large number of people in

    need of accommodation.

We still had people from other areas in

Kouga until the end of last week, so there is

no truth in the majority of visitors leaving

due to the power outage. By New Years Eve,

our townswere hives of activity, asmanypeo-

MET bouwerk wat binnekort begin, is n

nuwe skool vir Gamtoosvallei se inwoners

vinnig besig om n werklikheid te word.

Volgens DA-raadslid en skoolhoof van die

    Andrieskraal Primre Skool in Patensie,

    onderwysers n beter opvoedkundige omge-

    wing skep.

Die vier plaasskole is Andrieskraal, De

Mistkraal, Du Preez en Cockscomb primre

    skole.

Die nuwe skool sal 400 leerders van graad

R tot 7 en tussen 15 tot 20 onderwysers kan

    akkommodeer, sHendricks.

es.

    finale pylvlak is.

    ige dienste moes ry.

Di toetsstasie was sedert Mei 2010 gesluit,

    nadat die Koukamma-munisipaliteit onder

    administrasie geplaas is.

inwoners van regoor die Langkloof moes so

ver as George of Humansdorp ry indien hulle

voertuie wou laat lisensieer of om n rybewys

    te bekom.

Met my aanstelling in 2013, was die hero-

pening van die toetsstasie n prioriteit, s

    Warren Prins, bestuurder van beskermings-

    dienste.

    rikaanse Buro Standaard-handleidings vol-

    doen.

Een ondersoekbeampte, wat vir alle voer-

tuie verantwoordelik is, is reeds aangestel.

Die toetsstasie is vanaf 08:00 tot 15:30 gedur-

    ende die week oop.

.Daar was reeds in September 2012 aange-

In Maart 2014 het munisipale be-

    miljoen verkoop.

    Vakansiehuiskopers keer terug namark

    ELMA KLOPPERS

    groei in sewe jaar gelewer.

    jaargrondslag behaal, namate vakansiehuis-

deks van First National Bank (FNB).

In 2013 het di indeks n prysdaling van

    0,1% getoon.

FNB se indeks sluit in vakansiekusmark-

gelope vakansieseisoen n skerp toename in

    bedrywighede ervaar.

Pam Golding Eiendomme (PGE) meer as 30

    kontant-transaksies aan die Atlantiese kus

    beklink.

re. Hy s kopers oorweeg enigiets van n atel-

    jee-eenheid teen R685 000 tot n luukse water-

    kantwoning teen R25 miljoen.

Van Pringlebaai tot Hermanus was daar

    groot belangstelling in vakansiehuise, sAn-

nien Borg, PGE se besturende direkteur vir

die Boland en die Overberg. Sy s die kopers

is Wes-Kapenaars van dorpe soos die Paarl

    en Worcester, asook van Gauteng.

In die Arabella Country Estate naby Her-

manus het n koper R6 miljoen opgedok vir

    n luukse huis met n strandmeer-uitsig.

    JacquesduToit, eiendomsontleder vanAb-

sa, s: Die vakansiehuismark bied al n ge-

ruime tyd winskope en die geleentheid om

een op te tel, raak skraler.

TRANQUIL picnic spots, caravan stands and

lush greenery will soonmakeway for a shop-

ping centre, office park and a filling station.

The KougaMunicipality is in the process of

inviting tenders for the disposal of the Ben

Marais Caravan Park situated in Humans-

dorp. The new developmentwill include an of-

fice park, shopping centre, residential units,

filling station, truck inn and a taxi rank.

    According to municipal spokesperson

Mfundo Sobele, the caravan park is currently

not viable and is costing the municipality

moremoney to run thanwhat it is generating.

The BenMarais Caravan Park is one of the

pieces of land that themunicipality has identi-

fied for disposal after a Council process of

alienating land that is regarded as not necessa-

    rilyneeded for service delivery, saysMfundo.

Monies made from sales of such pieces of

land would go towards acceleration of ser-

    vice delivery.

According to Mfundo, the new owners will

decidewhat to construct on the premises, but

theywill have to keep in line with the catego-

ries that are listed on the tender documents.

Roughly speaking, one would tender to

buy the property from themunicipality. How

long they would take to build and the nature

of the new structures would be entirely up

    to the new owners.

For more information regarding the ten-

    der, contactG.Gysman at 042 200 2200 or send

    and email to [email protected].

    MONIQUE BASSON

STAP jy by haar voordeur in, word jy dadelik

    - dis stories. Stories van oudhede wat vra om

onthou teword.Wat vertel van n tyd toe daar

    mr tyd was.

Pure sentiment.

liefde gemaak van egte hout of koper - hou-

    baar en steeds bruikbaar.

Deline en haar vennoot, Rinie Louw, deel

nou di liefde met ander. Hulle het op 1 De-

sember hulle winkel, Ougoed, by Potters

    Place inOosterlandstraat in Jeffreysbaai geo-

pen. Die naam s alles: hier kan jy van n ou

silwer teestel wat n noue ontkoming by n

quilts word by die winkel verkoop.

Volgens Rinie is hulle tweemensewat deur

n Goddelike afspraak bymekaar gebring is

omdie pad saam te loop. Deline pak die dorp

reg en saam pak ons oudhede reg. Tussenin

speel ons en drink koffie, s Rinie. As jy

    gende skat.

Ek bring my nuutste fondse eers huis toe

waar ekdit bad endie gril uithaal.Danbesluit

ek of ek dit vir eers in my huis gaan hou of

winkel toe vat, s Deline. Die lekkerte hou

nooit op nie. Wanneer my huis te vol raak,

wyl hulle n heerlike koppie koffie - in n ou

raak, kan Deline by 082 890 3026 kontak.

    ONE of SAs most

    loved bands,

    Freshlyground will

    once again be

    reunited with their

    NMB fans for a

    one-night-only show

    happening in the

    city on Sunday,

    January 25.

    The band has not

    performed in the city

    since 2011 and is

    always extremely

    well-received when

    performing here. The

    band will also do a

    meet and greet with

    fans during the

    lunch break at the

    Momentum One day

    International match

    happening at St

    Georges Park

    cricket ground

    between SA and the

    West Indies, and the

    show will take place

    after the game at

    McArthurs Pools

    making it the official

    after party for the

    ODI.

    Members of the

    public attending the

    show will then also

    have the opportunity

    to meet and spot

    some of the cricket

    players who attend

    the show.

    Freshlyground was

    formed in early 2002,

    and is made up of

    seven talented and

    diverse musicians

    from South Africa,

    Mozambique and

    Zimbabwe. Fronted

    by the diminutive

    but dynamic Zolani

    Mahola, (who grew

    up in New Brighton,

    in PE) the band

    exudes a live

    performance energy

    that has been the

    bedrock of their

    success. The

    experienced rhythm

    section of Peter

    Cohen (drums) and

    Josh Hawks (bass) is

    complemented by

    guitarist Julio

    Sigauque, keyboard-

    ist Seredeal Schee-

    pers, Simon Attwell

    (flute, mbira, sax

    and harmonica) and

    violinist Kyla Rose

    Smith.

    Tickets for the

    show are available

    from Computicket at

    R100 or will be

    available at the door

    for the same price.

    VIP tickets are also

    available at R180 and

    these can be

    purchased directly

    from Michelle

    Campbell on

    072 997 3123.

    Members of the

    public attending the

    cricket will be given

    a R30 discount at the

    door, when they

    produce their cricket

    ticket. Doors open at

    5pm and the main

    act will be on stage

    around 19:00.
