The Kochville Township Board of Trustees has appointed a new Kochville Veterans Hall Di- rector. Kerri Malesky, a township resident of over 20 years, is heading up the exciting trans- formation. Keeping with the rich tradition of honoring our veterans of yesterday and today, the Kochville Veterans Hall will set out to per- form many updates, including a fresh, neutral décor and updated kitchen facilities, just to name a few. The Kochville Veterans Hall wel- comes the opportunity to serve our residents & community needs. We will keep you posted on the transformation as we work to make this rental hall a venue desired for a multitude of events! Call (989) 598-3069 for more info. The Kochville Township DDA has been working with MSU’s Sustainable Built Environment Initiative (SBEI) throughout the year to develop con- cepts for further improvements to Krossroads Park. These concepts address physical planning, design, and land use for the parcel surrounding the current Krossroads Park location. These plans are contingent upon the successful award of a DNR Trust Fund Grant that Kochville Township applied for earlier in 2016. More to come on that soon! For now we would like you to con- sider attending the final presentation from MSU which offers a graphic vision that provides citizens with a set of images and recommendations to guide improvements in their com- munity with a sustainability theme. This presentation will take place De- cember 15th at 8:30am at the Kochville Veterans Hall and your participation is appreciated. Kochville Veterans Hall Improvements Coming Soon! Kochville DDA Open House The Kochville Township Downtown Development Au- thority celebrated local business owners and residents recently at our annual DDA open house. The event took place Septem- ber 15h from 6-9pm at the VFW Hall and featured over two dozen booths represented by businesses, non profits, the sheriff’s department, and fire department. The tremendous turnout was a generous reminder of the vi- brant community in Kochville Township that helps make this a great place to live, work, and play. Attendance was estimated at 200-250 people making this year’s festivities the largest in our open house history. We thank those who came out to participate and hope you enjoyed the festive bonfire, door prizes, bounce house, lawn games, live band, and ca- tering. Those who missed it should mark their calendars for next year, because this annual event is a can’t-miss. Fashion Square Boulevard Takes
a Step Northward
Did you make time to visit the Kochville Farmers Market and sample some fine honey, pro-duce, or live music this year? We welcomed many newcom-ers to the market and also had a chance to connect with our most loyal supporters of local agriculture. Now it’s your chance to weigh in on improve-ments for next year!
We have taken some big steps to improve the market this year including the development of an EBT/SNAP benefit system to begin expanding our reach to a wider network in Saginaw County. Now more people than ever can visit the Kochville Farmers Market and enjoy healthy, sustainable produce using their food benefits. This sys-
Visit the Kochville Township website to find out how you can
give back to your community and help our non-profit neighbors.
Organizations like the American Cancer Society, United Way, St.
Marys of Michigan, and the Underground Railroad are looking for
volunteers like you to help make a difference in the lives of those
in need. A continuously updated list will be maintained starting in
October to help keep you informed with the latest information on
how to lend a hand. If you have a need for volunteers or if you
would simply like to learn more, please visit KochvilleDDA.org.
Over the past ten years many of our neighboring communities have
participated in a redevelopment program designed to allow for the
issuance of special liquor license permits. If you are a business own-
er or someone looking to do business in Kochville Township, you
may now be eligible for one of these licenses at a drastically reduced
cost . Typically, liquor licenses can be scarce and expensive in small-
er communities such as Kochville Township, fetching $50,000 easi-
ly. The redevelopment liquor licenses we can now begin applying
for are only $20,000, but must be tied to a business location and are
non-transferable. The DDA of Kochville Township will work
closely with you throughout the application process and help deter-
mine your eligibility. Specific guidelines can be found online or by
calling our office at 989-792-7596 ext. 113.
tem will be implemented by the start of next year along with expanded hours and an earlier start date.
If you have an interest in local agriculture we ask that you consider joining our steering committee to help guide future changes to the market. Call (989) 792-7596 ext 113 to learn more.
Sheriff Department Update
The Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind
residents and local businesses to be on the lookout for a new kind
of counterfeit money being used increasingly in Kochville Town-
ship. Several area business have accepted fake $100.00 dollar bills.
These fake bills are called "Movie Money." At first glance they
may look like real $100.00 dollar bills, but upon a little closer in-
spection you will notice a few key details to help identify them as
counterfeit. The texture is much different than that of an authentic
$100.00 dollar bill, but the most telling key is printed on the upper-
right side which reads, “For Motion Picture Use Only”. In these
counterfeit bills the face of Ben Franklin is somewhat smiling and
his eyebrows are arched, unlike authentic $100.00 bills. Clearly
these fake bills are not of great quality and easy to spot but under
the right circumstances some local businesses have been fooled.
Pay close attention if accepting bills in poorly lit conditions or if an
employee is inexperienced at recognizing counterfeit currency.
Along with these bills there have been several counterfeit $ 20.00
dollar bills passed in the area as well. Please do not hesitate to use a
counterfeit detector pen and contact the Saginaw County Sheriff's
Department when these bills are found. Passing along counterfeit
currency is a very serious crime punishable as a felony.
New Wayfinding Signs for VA
The Kochville DDA celebrates its veterans by installing
new wayfinding signs for the local Vet Center at 5360
Hampton Place, Saginaw, MI 48604. This VA resource
provides critical services to our men and women who
have served with dignity to protect the values we share
and our way of life. Our local Vet Center is the only one
of its kind in the Great Lakes Bay Region. For more infor-
mation about VA services, the local Vet Center can be
reached at (989) 321-4650.
Looking for Board Volunteers
Kochville Township relies on community volunteers to help
run its operations. Appointments are generally made once or
twice a year to various boards and commissions, including: the
Planning Commission (deals with land use matters), the Zon-
ing Board of Appeals (hears appeals about certain land use and
building matters), the Parks and Recreation Committee, and
the Downtown Development Authority. For more infor-
mation about these committees, please call us at (989) 792-
7596 or stop in at the Township Hall.
