IntroductionThis Software Guide describes the setup and use of the Exmark Service Tool for updating electronic modulefirmware.

Hardware RequirementsThe following hardware items are required:• Windows PC running Microsoft Windows 7 or

higher with at least one available USB port• Internet access• Exmark dealer portal login account• Service Tool Kit (see the Loose Parts section)

1. Download and InstallService Tool Software ForPCImportant: Do Not connect the Kvaser leaf lightCAN adapter to the PC until instructed to do so.1. Refer to the Software and Manual Download

Instruction sheet, that came with this kit, tolocate the software download page.

2. After logging in and reaching the downloadpage on the dealer/distributor portal, click on theExmark Service Tool download link.

3. Select “Run” when the pop-up appears at thebottom of the internet browser page as shownin Figure 1.

4. When the download is complete, the servicetool software installation begins and prompts forthe installation password. The password canbe found in the software download instructionssheet included in this service tool kit. Type inthe password and select “OK”.

CAN drivers WHCP version 5.20.4. This package contains both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers. The

3. Connect and Test KvaserCAN Adapter1. Insert the Kvaser CAN adapter USB connector

to the PC USB port and wait until windowshas successfully installed the Kvaser driver(reference Figure 13). If windows fails to installthe Kvaser driver, remove the Kvaser CANadapter from the USB port and restart the PC.After the PC has been restarted, insert theKvaser CAN adapter USB connector to the PCUSB port again and wait until Windows hassuccessfully installed the Kvaser driver.

2. Ensure that the Kvaser CAN adapter isconnected to the PC USB port and launchthe Exmark Service Tool and click the button“Firmware Update”. The service tool will try todetect the Kvaser CAN adapter and display oneof the following messages:• No Devices Found: indicates that the

service tool has detected the Kvaserhardware successfully.

• CAN Adapter Not Connected: indicatesthat the service tool is unable to detect theKvaser hardware.To fix this, uninstall the Kvaser CAN driversthrough the “programs and features”, restartthe PC, and reinstall the Kvaser driversoftware.

4. Connect Jumper HarnessTo Kvaser CAN AdapterConnect the Kvaser CAN adapter to the jumperharness. Secure the connection by tightening the twoscrews.

5. Connect Service Port1. Locate the service port on the equipment.

The service port is a 6-pin male connector andis typically located under or near the controllerpanel and is covered by a dust cap. If it isdifficult to locate the connector, remove thecontrol panel for easier access. Remove andretain the dust cap from the connector.

8. Perform Equipment’sController FirmwareUpdate (if requested bythe manufacturer)1. After connecting and testing the Kvaser CAN

adapter, connecting the jumper harness, andconnecting the machine’s service port, switchthe equipment key to the “ON” position.

2. From the Exmark Service Tool main page, click“Firmware Update”.

3. The Service Tool will automatically retrieve theequipment model information and will display inthe Equipment Model textbox.

4. Once the model appears in the text box, click“Check for Update”.

5. If a firmware update is available, the followingscreen would appear showing the current andthe new firmware part number(s). Click “UpdateNow” to update the firmware.

Important: Do Not interrupt the firmwareupdate. The update may take a few minutes.

9. Final InstructionsWhen finished using the Service Tool, disconnect theKvaser CAN adapter/jumper harness from the serviceport and reinstall the dust cap. Reinstall the controlpanel if necessary.
