unrestrained, in food immoderate, indolent inactive, him verily

well-established in morals and endowed with self-control and

dans les rgles morales, pourvu du contrle de soi mme et de vracit,

welcher frei von Verderbtheit, voller Wahrheitsliebe und
Selbstkontrolle, fest verankert ist in den Gelbden, verdient die

restrained, in food moderate, full of faith, full of sustained

Celui qui, non sans purulences, dnu de contrle de soi mme et de
vracit, porterait la robe ocre n'en serait pas digne.

they see the unessential, - they who entertain (such) wrong

Chn thc thy phi chn, Ai m p t vng, Khng bao gi t chn. 11 - Dans le
non rel, ils voient le rel, dans le rel, ils voient lirrel ; Ceux
qui demeurent dans le champ des ides fausses, jamais n'arrivent au
rel.

Wesentliches fr unwesentlich halten, gelangen nicht zum
Wesentlichen und befinden sich im Reich falscher Vorstze. 12. Chn

unwesentlich halten, gelangen zum Wesentlichen und befinden sich im

ill-thatched house, so does lust penetrate an undeveloped mind. --

lt vo! 14 - De mme que la pluie ne pntre pas dans une maison au
chaume en bon tat, ainsi le dsir ne pntre pas dans une psych bien
entrane. 14. Wie Regen nicht in eine gut gedeckte Htte dringt, so
Leidenschaft nicht in den gebten Geist. 15. i ny ch ny bun, cht ri

dans tous les mondes, celui qui fait le mal s'afflige : il
s'afflige et prit, voyant son action impure. 15. Hier grmt er sich,
er grmt sich danach. In beiden Welten grmt sich der beltter; Er
grmt sich, er ist bekmmert, wenn er das Schlechte seiner Taten
sieht. 16. i ny ch ny vui, cht ri ch khc vui; k lm iu thin nghip, c
hai ni u vui; v thy thin nghip mnh lm, k kia sinh ra an vui, cc
vui. Here he rejoices, hereafter he rejoices. In both states the
well-doer rejoices.

He rejoices, exceedingly rejoices, perceiving the purity of his

vie, il se rjouit aprs cette vie, dans tous les mondes, le faiseur
de bien se rjouit ; Il se rjouit, il se rjouit extrmement, en
voyant ses actions pures. 16. Hier freut er sich, er freut sich
danach; In beiden Welten freut sich der inneren Reichtum
Schaffende; Er freut sich, ist glcklich, wenn er das Makellose

mng. Lm phc hai i mng. Hn mng: "Ta lm phc" Sanh cnh lnh, mng hn. 18
- Il est joyeux dans cette vie, il est joyeux aprs cette vie ;
celui qui fait le bien, dans tous les mondes il est joyeux ; "J'ai
fait le bien", encore plus est-il joyeux, all vers les tats
heureux. 18. Hier ist er glcklich, er ist danach glcklich; In
beiden Welten ist der inneren Reichtum Schaffende glcklich; Er ist
glcklich bei dem Gedanken Ich habe inneren Reichtum geschaffen;
Nachdem er zu einem guten Zustand gelangt ist, ist sein Glck noch

Here he suffers, hereafter he suffers. In both states the

cng than. 17 - Il se lamente dans cette vie, aprs cette vie il se
lamente, dans tous les mondes celui qui fait le mal se lamente ;
"J'ai fait le mal", ainsi se lamente-t-il ; Encore plus se
lamente-t-il, all vers les tats misrables. 17. Hier qult er sich,
er qult sich danach; In beiden Welten qult sich der beltter; Er
qult sich mit dem Gedanken: Ich habe falsch gehandelt; Nachdem er
zu einem schlechten Zustand gelangt ist, wird er noch mehr selber
geqult. 18. i ny ch ny hoan h, cht ri ch khc hoan h; k tu hnh phc
nghip, c hai ni u hoan h, mng rng
Though much he recites the Sacred Texts, but acts not
accordingly, that heedless man is like a cowherd who counts others'
kine. He has no share in the fruits of the Holy Life. -19 19. Du c
tng nhiu kinh, Tm bung lung cu th, Nh k chn b thu, Kh hng Sa mn qu.
19 - Quoiqu'il rcite beaucoup les textes, sil n'agit pas en accord
avec eux; cet

homme inattentif est comme un gardien de troupeaux qui compte le
troupeau des autres ; il n'a aucune part dans les batitudes de
l'ascte. 19. Wenn jemand viel heiliges Textbuch aufsagt, jedoch als
unwachsamer Mensch nicht nach ihnen handelt; dann ist er wie ein
Viehhirte, der das Vieh anderer zhlt, und ernt nicht Frucht eines
kontemplativen Lebens. 20. Tuy tng t kinh m thng y gio hnh tr, hiu
bit chn chnh, t b tham sn, si, tm hin lnh, thanh tnh, gii thot, xa
b th dc, th d ci ny hay ci khc, ngi kia vn hng phn ch li ca Sa mn.
Though little he recites the Sacred Texts, but acts in accordance
with the teaching, forsaking lust, hatred and ignorance, truly
knowing, with mind well freed, clinging to naught here and
hereafter, he shares the fruits of the Holy Life. 20 20. Du c tng t

i khng chp tr, Th hng Sa mn qu. 20 - Quoiqu'il rcite peu les
textes, il agit en accord avec le Dhamma , et se dfaisant du
plaisir sensuel, de la haine et de l ' ignorance, connaissant selon
la vrit, avec un esprit totalement libre, Attachant rien ci et
aprs, il prend part aux batitudes de l'ascte. 20. Wenn jemand
selten Textbuch aufsagt, aber dem Dhamma folgt, in bereinstimmung
mit dem Dhamma handelt, Leidenschaft, Abneigung, Tuschung aufgibt,
und wach ist, mit freiem Geist, nicht anhaftet weder hier noch
danach, ernt er doch Frucht eines kontemplativen Lebens. Phm II :
APPAMAADA VAGGA HEEDFULNESS - PHM KHNG BUNG LUNG 21. Khng bung lung

Heedfulness is the path to the deathless, heedlessness is the
path to death. The heedful do not die; the heedless are like unto
the dead. -- 21 21. Tinh cn l ng sanh, Bung lung l ng t, Tinh cn l
bt t, Bung lung nh thy ma! 21- La vigilance est le sentier vers le
sans mort, la ngligence est le sentier vers la mort ; Le vigilant
ne mourra pas, le ngligent est comme il tait dj mort . 21.
Wachsamkeit ist der Pfad zur Todlosigkeit ; Unwachsamkeit ist der
Todespfad; Die Wachsamen sterben nicht; Die Wachlosen sind

Distinctly understanding this (difference), the wise (intent) on
heedfulness, rejoice in heedfulness, delighting in the realm of the

phng dt, Vui thnh qu xut trn. 22- Comprenant cela distinctement, le
sage est vigilant, il se rjouit dans la vigilance, se dlectant dans
le champ des Nobles Aryas. 22. Indem sie dies als echten
Unterschied erkannt haben, erfreuen sich jene

to cho mnh hn o(20) chng cn ngn thy triu(21) no nhn chm c.CT (20):
Nh ci t cao c th trnh khi thy tai. K tr khi chng c A la hn th khng
cn b phin no quy nhiu, nhn chm. CT (21): Cc phin no tham, sn, si
buc rng v sai s chng sanh trong vng ba ci.
The constantly meditative, the ever steadfastly ones realize the
bond-free, supreme Nibbaana. -- 23 23. Ai chuyn tp thin nh, Quyt tm
tu vng vng, Gii thot mi tri buc, Chng v thng Nit bn. 23 - Ceux qui
mditent constamment, ceux qui toujours s'efforcent ardemment,
ralisent le Nirvana, libre de liens, l'incomparable . 23.
Diejenigen, die sich unaufhrlich in Meditation vertiefen,
beharrlich, standhaft in ihrem Bemhen: Sie erreichen Nirwana, die
unbertroffene Ruhe vom Joch. 24. Khng bung lung, c gng, hng hi,
chnh nim, khc k theo tnh hnh, sinh hot ng nh php, th ting lnh cng
tng trng. The glory of him who is energetic, mindful pure in deed,
considerate, self-controlled, right-living, and heedful steadily
increases. -- 24 24. Ai n lc, chnh nim, Trong sch v nghim cn, T ch,
sng chn chnh, Ting lnh tng trng dn. 24 - Par degrs s' accrot la
gloire de celui qui est nergique, attentif, pur en actions, qui
discrimine, contrle, qui est de vie droite, et vigilant. 24. Jene
mit Antrieb, geistesgegenwrtig, rein im Handeln, umsichtig, in
ihren Handlungen wachsam ist , beherrscht, den Dhamma lebend: ihr
Ruhm wchst.
By sustained effort, earnestness, discipline and self-control
let the wise man make for himself an island, which no flood
overwhelms. -- 25 25. Nh nhit tm c gng, T ch, sng nghim trang, Ngi
tr xy hn o, Nc lt kh ngp trn. 25 - Par l'effort, l'ardeur, la
discipline et le contrle, que le sage fasse pour lui mme une le qu'
aucun flot ne pourra submerger. 25. Durch innere Bemhungen,
Wachsamkeit, Beherrschung und Selbstkontrolle schafft der Weise
eine Insel, die keine Flut berkommen kann. 26. Ngi m n ngu si m chm

chm gi ca bu. The ignorant, foolish folk indulge in heedlessness;
the wise man guards earnestness as the greatest treasure. -- 26 26.

Sie sind der Unwachsamkeit verfallen, daher sind sie Stumpfsinnige,
Narren, whrend jemand, der weise ist, die Wachsamkeit pflegt als

person, associates with a wise man for only a moment, he quickly

seinem Verderben wird dem Narren Kentnisse und Ruhm zuteil;

Such is the ambition of the fool; his desires and pride increase.

Verily, an evil deed committed does not immediately bear fruit,
just as milk curdles not at once; smouldering, it follows the fool

revealer of treasure, points out faults and reproves; let one
associate with such a wise person; it will be better, not worse,

meilleur sera, non le pire, pour celui qui suivra une telle

sieht, euch zurechtweist, bleibt bei solchen Weisen, der Schtze
zeigt; Fr denjenigen, der bei einem solchen Weisen bleibt, wird

should conquer a men in battlefield, yet he, indeed, is the noblest
