Kingdown Week Friday 11th October 2019 Number 6, 2019 On the 8th October eleven Year 13 EPQ students presented their research to staff and students in the Sixth Form centre. Over the last year they have worked hard to complete their Extended Project Qualification – an additional option they chose alongside their other A Level subjects. As part of this, they have: developed their study skills; chosen a topic of interest; identified a question; visited the University of Bath; consulted their supervisors; and independently researched their topic to produce an artefact or 5000 word essay. The topics that were presented were hugely varied and reflected each student’s own personal interests – from the impact of social media, to strategies to learn bilingual language, via the Great Pacific Garbage Patch! Well done all! Kingdown Gardening Club, who meet as an After-school Club on Wednesdays, have been busy transforming areas of the school with spring planting. This week Alex and Jemima, with Mr Frostick and Mrs Whitcombe have planted over 400 daffodil bulbs at the front of the school near the car park. They have also added over 50 pansy plants in the Memorial Garden, outside Reception and near Creative Arts. The new zig zag garden the club created over the summer has now also been planted with 100 bluebell bulbs.
