Visually communicate the existing identity of KCAI across the built environment to unify and identify the campus to reflect energy, activity and artistic spirit

The purpose of this design is to visually communicate the existing identity of KCAI across the built environment to unify and identify the campus.

The use of the core graphic and lime green as well as the primary color will act as key elements that will extend the existing brand.

Page 4: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

This will be used to reflect energy, activity and artistic spirit directed towards visitors, new students, and existing students, faculty and staff.

Page 5: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

All materials will be pulled from the surrounding environment at KCAI and extending to both interior and exterior identification.

Site Identi!er Campus Directory

Here, we have identified each of the buildings through the lime-green numbering system 1-18. The purple dots for 4 site identifiers, pink dots for 18 directionals and orange dots for the 3 campus directories.

Page 8: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

SITE IDENTIFIER

The site identifier is a large, silver metal structure of the core graphic.

Page 9: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

This will be placed right through the main entrance to campus as a visitor parks in the designated “visitor parking” and enters vanderslice.

BUILDING IDENTIFIER

The building identifiers will include the same large, silver metal structure of the core graphic. The information itself will be seen on rusted metal and black plastic.

The sign will include a 6 inch inside panel that will have a lime-green light inside. This will give the sign a luminous, green glow during dark hours.

Page 11: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

Here, we have designed each building identifier for each of the 18 buildings on the KCAI campus according to their location on the core graphic.

Page 12: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

The sign itself will reach 14 feet and the number of the building will be at the top of the hierarchical scale.

Page 13: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

The building name will be seen second and address third in the lime-green color.

Page 14: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

CAMPUS DIRECTORY

The campus directory will be placed next to the site identifier as the visitor walks up to vanderslice

Page 15: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

This will be one of 3 throughout the campus.

DIRECTIONALS

Mineral Hall4320 Oak Street

The directionals will be a 6 feet tall cantilever and keep the same visual consistency as the building identifiers using the core graphic shape as the support that is planted in the ground.

Page 17: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

This will include the same lime-green light on the inside of the sign so the sign is able to be read during the nighttime.

Accessible Entrance

ACCESSIBLE ENTRANCE

The exterior accessible entrance identifier will be made from the rusted metal with a subtle core graphic shape on the surface of the sign.

Page 19: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

The street and speed limit traffic signs will use this same material and core graphic support that reflects the KCAI identity.

ROOM IDENTIFICATION

The interior signage will include silver metal, mounted plaques a lime-green back to set it off from the wall.

Page 22: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

These signs will also incorporate the KCAI identity into the silver by buffing each in a different direction to subtly reveal the core graphic shape.

BUILDING DIRECTORY & WALL-MOUNTED DIRECTIONAL

The building directory will be mounted in the same silver metal material and lime-green backing.

Page 24: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

The text will include white futura stating the name of the building and black garamond to identify the floors, rooms and other building information.

REST ROOM IDENTIFICATION

Restroom signs will, again, use the same material and include the “accessible” information

Here is a context image of the sign, to scale, mounted on the bathroom door.

Page 27: KCAI: Schematic Design Presentation

With each element, our goal is for the design to visually communicate the existing identity of KCAI across the built environment to unify and identify the campus to reflect energy, activity and the artistic spirit.
