COLLECT • CONTRIBUTE • COLLABORATE • CREATE

jur•nl is an experimental creative project which examines the process of visual research and collaboration.

Branching out from a starting point contributed by an invited established artist, the jur•nl collective and other creatives are called to respond with images, text and video on our website. At the end of the week the collective come together to discuss the week’s research, and collaborate in creating a single image in response to the starting point.

Contributing Artist003 | Emma Critchley_____________________________________________________

Emma is a UK based artist specialising in underwater portraiture using both mediums of still phtography and video.

She studied a BA in photography at Brighton before graduating from an MA in Photography at the Royal College of Art in 2011. “My practice is an enquiry into what happens to us, as land-based mammals when we become immersed underwater. When submerged beneath the surface our basic structure of being changes. We become suspended in a threshold state, held within a fragile, transitory temporality sustained by the breath.”

Liquids, hands brought to our faces, trying to see through our translucent skin, trying to see through the lens...Our hands and eyes sweat and ache under the weight...
