Forwarding plane Forwarding packets, rate-limiting, cos, stateless firewall, built on ASICs. (PFE, PIC/PIM, cFEB)

Control and Forwarding plane are connected through an internal link.

Transit and exception traffic

Exception traffic is handled by RE.
