Gospel: Matthew 10:3742 With simplicity, Jesus tells his apostles that everyone should love him above all others ‑‑ father, mother, son or daughter. He adds, “He who welcomes you, welcomes me.” One of the gifts Pope Francis extols, is the gift of hospitality. In our families, in our church, we have the ability to open the door and make others feel welcome. A familiar Irish expression reads A Hundred Thousand Welcomes.Elisha the prophet in the Book of Kings, was offered hospitality by a wealthy woman, and she was rewarded for her gift. The person ready and willing to give ONLY a cup of cold water in the name of Jesus to a little one will not go without a reward. In the past it was not common to see people carrying a water bottle in public. Sometimes we looked for a fountain for a drink. Maybe the gift of water and hospitality for us can be welcoming a stranger, assisting someone in need, listening to a person who has suffered a loss or suffering a sickness. Whatever gesture I offer can be the Elisha gesture and the water offering which might seem small, but does not go unrewarded. SCRIPTURE READINGS

First Reading: 2 Kings 4:8‑11, 14‑16a A woman in Shunem believed strongly in the holiness of the prophet Elisha. To reward her, Elisha promised she and her aging husband would, within the year, be the parents of a son.

Second Reading: Romans 6:3‑4, 8‑11 Paul explains to the Romans that by immersion in water at baptism, they “die” to their sins; by rising from the water, they rise from “death and sin” to new life in Christ.

Gospel: Matthew 10:37‑42 With simplicity, Jesus tells his apostles that everyone should love him above all others ‑‑ father, mother, son or daughter. He adds, “He who welcomes you, welcomes me.”

One of the gifts Pope Francis extols, is the gift of hospitality. In our families, in our church, we have the ability to open the door and make others feel welcome. A familiar Irish expression reads “A Hundred Thousand Welcomes.”

MANNA HOUSE 54 High St., Newton • 973-579-6517

Meals Served: Monday - Friday 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Kitchen Supervisor: Laura Lippencott

ALL ARE WELCOME

Manna House opened its doors to the Sussex Cty. community in November, 1987 and since that time they have provided a daily meal to anyone who en-ters. They are currently staffed by 25 Congregations, one of which is Good Shepherd.

Parishioner, Maria Vandenberg is the coordinator for Good Shepherd’s team of 20 volunteers.

Each participating Congregation selects one day a month and provides 6 volunteers for that day. The volunteers prepare the food, set up for the arrival of guests, serve the meal and cleanup. There are also volunteers who pick up food which is donated on a regular weekly basis and deliver it to Manna House.

Manna House Mission Statement

“We feed the homeless, elderly, mentally ill, the lonely, the poor of pocket and the poor in spirit as well as those who fall between the ‘cracks’ for public assistance.

As a place of hospitality, we nourish the body with food, and the spirit with respect and dignity . . . There are ‘no strings attached’ to our ministry. If people come, we feel they have a need to be there . . . no questions asked.”

We bring to your attention the great work that Manna House does right in our own back yard. We offer our blessings to the volunteers from Good Shepherd for living out God’s plan to help those in need. May God Bless you all.

Seek Reconciliation, Not Resolution: Appreciate Your Transformation

Please join His Holiness, Pope Francis, who has chosen the following intention to be prayed for during JULY:

Lapsed Christians That our brothers and sisters who have strayed from the faith, through our prayer and witness to the Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness of the Lord and the beauty of Christian life.

Is there someone you can invite to explore the Catholic faith?

Someone unbaptized or baptized into another faith tradition?

A Catholic adult interested in the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the way by which individuals become "citizens of the Kingdom" through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Please encourage anyone you may know who may be interested to call the parish office,

973-786-6631 to learn more about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

Knights of Columbus Football Mania Tickets available after all weekend Masses

July 15-16

Lord, today, bless those who have served and

continue to give their lives for our freedom.

PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY THIS 4TH

Church Bells are christened and have names. They call us to worship every week and ring out the praises of God. Do you know the names of our three bells in the bell tower? Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Since there are no significant bell foundries in the United States, our bells were cast in Holland by a firm that has been making church bells for hundreds of years. They are operated electronically and were installed in 1985. May they forever joyously ring!

DID YOU KNOW?

PRAY THE ROSARY for the intention of all members of the parish

SUNDAY, JULY 30

following the 9:00 AM Mass

The Knights of Columbus invite all parishioners to Pray the Rosary on this fifth Sunday.

SUMMERTIME: VACATIONS and MASS

If you are traveling to new territory this summer and don’t know the Mass schedule there, it is easy to find out. Go to www.masstimes.org to find the Mass schedule for places around the country and the world. While traveling, visiting another Church can be quite enlightening and enriching while keeping you con-nected to your faith, through your worship.

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for allowing me to be an American Citizen.

May I do my part in keeping it a place others would want to call home.

Thank you Lord, for the beauty you have bestowed upon America.

Let me do my part in preserving its’ splendor.

Thank you for the great history of America.

May I learn from our failures and gleam from the great men and women who made America what it is.

Finally, Lord, I pray that you bless the United States of America.

Be a Guide Post and Shining Light to all. Amen.

We will return with the 4-page Bulletin design in September.

Thank you to Phyllis Haarmann for contributing the Religious Ed weekly page.
