Check out the link below for more information and stay tuned to The GRAM for when registration opens. More Information Here State Leaders’ Forum November 11-13, 2016 Santa Rosa, CA Early Bird Deadline May 15th The concept of competence as defined by social scientists in positive youth development (based on the work of many, including Lerner et al., 2010) includes emotional competence, social skills, life skills, healthy habits and love of learning. The conference will focus on building the capacity of our adult volunteers to be even more competent in helping our 4-H youth thrive. The goal is to provide quality education sessions with take-home strategies and be able to invigorate all attendees for the program year(s) ahead. If you can't make it for the full weekend, plan to join us for a very full day on Saturday, November 12th, as that's the "workshop" day. Signing up early will make it less expensive for you to get this intensive series of interactive workshops to support your development as adult volunteers. Registration includes meals, but not lodging. More Information Here

2016-2017 4-H Online Enrollment July 1, 2016 Next program year, beginning July 1st, 2016, all 4-H Families and Volunteers will be able to enroll themselves in Humboldt County 4-H using the 4-H Online System. Ferndale Club Update

The month of May was quite busy for Ferndale 4H’ers. Projects are in full force and record books are being completed. Lambs, piglets, and kids have been brought home, dairy and beef animals are on the gain, and the poultry and rabbits are looking good. Ferndale 4H received an amazing gift this month! Mr. Miller made us a beautiful white board to help us all know what is going on. You can see it in the picture on the next page. Thank you Mr. Miller, we appreciate you and your amazing wife! At the May Community meeting the top pancake breakfast ticket seller was Bryleigh Busick! Aliya Fonseca, Spencer Chapman, Sydney Smith, and Tylynn Mincks were in the top 5. May is also the time for electing a new officer team. This year we had 2 4H’ers running for office. Their election speeches were great! Ballots were cast and we can’t wait for the results in June. The June Community meeting was very eventful, we had our annual awards banquet and election results were revealed. Belotti Hall was filled with good food, 4H leaders, and supportive 4H families. Many pins and stripes were awarded. Madeline Holmes received her Platinum star, and Gold star recipients were Sarah Richardson and Lindsay Luster. Four Silver stars and 5 Bronze stars were also awarded. Scholarship recipients were also awarded tonight. This year Spencer Fulton, Sarah Richardson, and Anne Bibby were the big winners. Their dedication and hard work for our club and community will be missed while they are away at college. Next year’s Officer Team was also revealed! Bryleigh Busick will be the 2016-2017 President, with Dominic Regli as Vice President. Malela Fulton will be the Secretary. Seth Regli will be the Treasurer and Derek Griffith as the Reporter. Mathew Hansen will be Quarter Master, Gabriel Norkunas will be our Photographer. Healthy Living Officer will be Rebecca Russ. Our Sergeant of Arms will be Nathaniel Holmes and Clara Christiansen. Songs and Recreation will be led by Sienna Radelfinger, and our Historian will be Jorlyn Villalvazo. This reporter is predicting a fabulous 2016-2017 4H year!

See you all at the Summer Meeting on July 14th at Fireman’s Park!

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker

Delaney Ruston saw that happening with her own kids and began a quest to uncover how it might impact their development. As with

her other two award-winning documentaries on mental health, Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the

vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet

addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain

scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and also offers solutions on how adults can empower their

kids to best navigate the digital world to find balance.
