Prior to his appointment to the Circuit Court Bench by Governor Rick Scott this past June, Judge Smith served in the Eleventh Circuit County Court Criminal Division since 2008. Prior to that, he was senior assistant city attorney for the City of Miami Beach from 2007-08; a senior trial attorney with the Law Office of Rebecca W. Ribler from 2004-07; a trial attorney with McGrane, Nosich & Ganz, P.A. from 2003-04, and an assistant state attorney with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office from 1999 to 2003. Judge Smith holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University Cum Laude, and a law degree from Michigan State University, also Cum Laude. He joins the Circuit Court Criminal Division at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Center. Judge Smith’s appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Circuit Court Judge Scott Silverman.
