Thank you for attending our final production of the season, ·•Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'". We are very excited to be presenting this well received musical and your ticket response has been overwhelming.
Community Players is an all-volunteer organiz.ation. We ask you to come join us during our future productions either onstage, backstage or in the audience. Please call our Scene shop number, 662-5113, for instructions on how to become involved.
As we close this season we are preparing for the next one. A children·s production ot "Wiz.ard of Oz'". sponsored through Community Players Theatre for Young People, will be auditioning on May 11 and 18. We will be casting 85 children plus developing a working crew for the show. --wiz.ard'' will be performed on July 12-14 and rehearsals will be held in June. All cast and crew will be charged a $25 participation fee and will receive a souvenir T-shirt.
Season tickets sales are beginning this week.for Players· 74th season which includes "A Little Night Music", "I Hate Hamlet", "A Chorus Line", "Wait Until Dark", and "Kiss Me Kate". There will be staff in the lobby to assist you. Tickets purchased during •'Joseph'' will receive a discount and we will be able to accept VISA and MASTERCARD.
We always encourage our audience to look beyond just a ticket purchase and include a donation at Community Players. During the production of·"Winnie the Pooh .. we had to do an emergency roof repair. The required roof replacement is getting closer and closer. The price tag for that will be between $35 - $40,000 so we need your help. In addition to private donations, we are asking employers to provide scholarships to allow children in economic need to attend our performances and workshops. It takes ticket sales and donations to keep us going and we appreciate all of your continued support and assistance.
Every person who purchases a season ticket is a ··member" of Community Players as set forth in our Constitution and Bylaws. Our annual meeting and election of officers on Tuesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the theatre. Please make plans to attend as we discuss the future of the organiz.ation.
Again, we urge you to purchase tickets for the 1996-97 season and urge you to tell your family, friends and neighbors about Community Players. And, last but not least, thank you for being in the audience this season. See you next year!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Parrish, President Board of Governors

DIRECTOR'S NOTES "May I return to the beginning ... "
As the coat in its story, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAM COAT is a work of many colors. Written in I 967 as a "pop contata" for the school at St. Paul's Junior School, JOSEPH was the first collaborative work between Andrew Lloyd Webber (JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, EVITA, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) and Tim Rice (JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, EVITA, Disney's THE LION KING). At its first performance it lasted only fifteen minutes. Following nine revisions JOSEPH received its Broadway debut on January 17, 1982. This was a work originally written for children so it is interesting to note that by the 1982 production the children's choir had been omitted entirely.
Ten years later a new production featuring a fifty voice children's choir premiered at the newly restored state theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Taken from the smash production at the London Palladium, this was the first professional production to include the children' choir.
When the curtain rises on each performance of this production of JOSEPH, most of the audience will be unaware of the contributions and labor of the many people who have worked behind-the-scenes to make it possible. The taste of the director, choreographer, the musical director, and the designer is to tell you a story. Their role is to move you and transport you back to Egypt 1759 BC (by way of Carnaby Street 1968, and later to a mega-party in the present.).
This is the story of a child who grows to be a man, told to the audience through sight and sound. An ancient tale is made enthralling by Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's brilliant musical score, the designer's and choreographer's formidable talents to create magic and color in a theatrical setting, and a dream cast who bring it to glorious life. Sets. Costumes. Lights. Sound. People. Each of these set the whole thing in motion. Join us as we "draw back the curtain" and ''return to the beginning."
