Behaviour change can save 10%?

•Invigorate the local economy

This is how we did it

Users given full access (Green Impact Team) and ownership of Edd:e

The GI team reported anomalies to Estates

The GI team undertook switch-off campaigns

Impressive savings: circa 33%

A typical eMail report

Page 9: JISC Delta Project (University of Bradford)

Confronting Inequality: Celebrating Diversity

Extremely flexible and it can be configured to send all manner of reports

HoweverIt’s difficult to interpret

A none technical perspective of using a dashboard

Page 12: JISC Delta Project (University of Bradford)

Confronting Inequality: Celebrating Diversity

A user perspective of using a “dashboard” in a behaviour change programme:•Graphs were difficult to see and interpret for non engineers•Info presented not meaningful to School staff•Time consuming to enter Edd:e database and pull out data

Page 13: JISC Delta Project (University of Bradford)

Confronting Inequality: Celebrating Diversity

A user perspective of using a “dashboard” in a behaviour change programme:•Needed interpretation from estates •Clear graphs help to ‘prove’ results but words probably better•E.G. what this shows is that you have achieved……..

EMU informing the JISC DELTA project

- Element of technical expertise required to interpret

-Good results, but scattergun and information overload

-Dashboards need to be personalised

-Simple information is the best

-Empowerment works

The DELTA Project

Aims:

To develop an electronic dash board, with:

- Real (near) time read back

- Easy to understand: “at a glance”

-Produce meaningful information to the user

-Able to be replicated across a broad range of systems

The Challenge

Two large teaching labs in a multi-story ‘60s building

Ageing infrastructure – leaky building

Engineering layouts not conducive to individual monitoring

Disparate and combined systems

Fume cupboard compliance issues

Interesting lab management practices

Constant Volume and VAV systems

Edd:e metering

Trend BEMS

Fume Cupboards: Waldner and Machaire

NEXT Strand one:

Two large teaching labs selected

Working with Edd:e and Waldner on what data can be collected and how

Installation of metering systems over the summer

4 week benchmark period from September –staff to not be informed.

Interventions/campaign launched October

Strand Two:

-Meet with users and get their views

-Deciding what information is to be displayed

-The format of the display – designed with the user in mind

- Link to “Big Green Lab” project
