Brad Henderson is Worship Associate at First Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is active throughout the region as an adjudicator and clinician. Brad and his wife Mary Kay have recorded several albums together. They have two sons, Josh and Joe Creed. Brad’s has a Bachelors degree in Instrumental Music Education from Northeastern State University and a Masters in composition from the University of Arkansas. Brad’s experience in jazz education shows through in his adept handling of the jazz rhythm section and small brass combo. In his series, you will find a wide variety of musical selections – hymns, choruses, spirituals, and contemporary Christian hits. They are “road-tested” and have been used often as preludes or postludes or as emphasis pieces within a worship service. The series is written for rhythm section and a four piece horn section - most commonly, trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax and trombone. For the most part, they are “straight-ahead” jazz, without sounding too “big band” and many of them include “open” sections for improvisation. Rhythm parts include a chart for guitars, a written-out piano part as well as a written out bass line and these parts work very well when played simply as written. However, more advanced players should certainly feel free to add their own musical input and interpretations.
