Content Area: Science Grade Level: 4 th Summary: The purpose of
this instructional PowerPoint is to inform the students about the
steps of the water cycle process. Learning Objective: Given the
Study Jams video and quiz, TSW view the video and correctly answer
the five questions of the quiz with 100% accuracy. Given the Water
Cycle diagram, TSW label the diagram with 100% accuracy. Content
Standard: GLE 0407.8.1 Recognize the major components of the water
cycle. Accomplishment: SPI 0407.8.1 Identify the basic features of
the water cycle and describe their importance to life on
earth.
Slide 3
New Vocabulary Hydrological Cycle or H2O Cycle- Other names for
the Water Cycle. Evaporation- The process of a liquid changing into
a gas. Condensation- The process of a gas changing into a liquid.
Precipitation- The process of condensed liquid falling to earth in
the form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet. Plant Transpiration- The
process of evaporation of liquid from plants into the atmosphere.
Runoff- Water that travels downward over land to fill in bodies of
water such as: lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans.
Slide 4
Steps of the Water Cycle Step 1-Evaporation/Plant Transpiration
Step 2-Condensation Step 3- Precipitation Step 4- Runoff
Slide 5
Evaporation In the Water Cycle, Evaporation occurs when energy
from the sun, called solar radiation, heats up water from oceans,
seas, and lakes. The water from the oceans, seas, and lakes changes
from a liquid to a gas and travels up into the atmosphere.
Slide 6
Pop Question! In Evaporation, water changes from a gaseous
state to a liquid state. A. TrueTrue B. FalseFalse

Slide 9
Plant Transpiration Plant Transpiration occurs when
water/liquid from plant parts such as leaves, stems, flowers, and
roots evaporate and travel up into the atmosphere.
Slide 10

Slide 13
Condensation In the Water Cycle, Condensation is the process
where water transitions from a gaseous phase into a liquid phase.
The liquid moisture collects together to form clouds.

Slide 17
Precipitation In the Water Cycle, Precipitation is the process
where the clouds that had been formed, during condensation, become
so full of moisture that they begin to release the moisture in the
form of rain, snow, hail, or sleet.
Slide 18
Pop Question! Precipitation is released in the form of which of
the following: 1. Rain 2. Thunder 3. Soil

Runoff Runoff is the water, that was created by precipitation,
that flows downward over land to collect in larger bodies of water
such as lakes and rivers.

Summary In this lesson the students will have learned about the
following steps of the Water Cycle: evaporation, transpiration,
condensation, precipitation, and runoff. The students will have
been presented with opportunities to test the knowledge about the
Water Cycle that they have learned in this lesson. The students
will also have viewed videos and listened to a song about the Water
Cycle. Once the lesson has conclude, the students should have
thorough knowledge about the Water Cycle.
