JBM 5th Grade Math Week of April 20, 2020 Review of Common Core Standard: ● 5.NBT.B - Perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers and with decimals to hundredths ● Essential Question: ○ Why is the standard algorithm an efficient method for multiplication? Dear Families: Below are optional activities for your student to participate in each day. Use your discretion on what activities you choose to do with your student. Choosing to do only some of the activities is fine, as one activity doesn’t depend on the other to be completed successfully. These activities will not be graded and are a review of math and science skills that we have already practiced. only some of the activities is fine, as one activity doesn’t depend on the other to be completed successfully. These activities will not be graded and are a review of math and
science skills that we have already practiced. This Week’s Math Focus:
YouTube: Standard Algorithm A great video on how the area model relates to the standard algorithm.
Let's Go Camping
The Camping activity is a math project that is to be completed on Monday and Tuesday. This is a math project in which you will take on the role of planning the class camping trip. You will use your math skills to help you make important decisions about the trip.

💡Problem of the Day 🚨 NEW CARDS THIS WEEK!!!!!! Math 24: Object of the game: Make the number 24 from the four numbers shown. You can add, subtract, multiply and divide. Use all four numbers on the card, but use each number only once. You do not have to use all four operations. Can you solve the card below? Below you will see 5 cards, one for each day.
⚛ Science 🔬 Here are some additional science activities if you would like to do them. Why Do Zebras Have Stripes?
What can you find and make into art? Using objects found around your house, create a work of art that tells me
something about you. It could be anything from a place you like to go (for me it’s the beach) or your initials spelled out with natural materials from your
backyard. The possibilities are endless!
Click here to learn more about found art (or “objet trouve”) I would love to see what you come up with; email me pictures of your creation - [email protected]. Keep an eye out for my creation in next week’s newsletter!
