The culture and fashion of Japan today~

• Japan is a very popular country! One of the most developed countries, it has an amazing culture filled with beauty and art. Strong and traced back through the eras.

• Me? I love the fashion. From lolita to visual kei. I’m gonna tell you about all of ‘em!

Visual Kei

• To the left is an example of visual kei fashion, popular amongst males in Japan.

• Gazette is one of many J-rock groups who specialize in outfits spawned from Victorian fashions. (They’re also really hot~ and my fave J-rock band!)

• The most important part of the style is the color scheme, wild hair, make up, and the style of the outfits.

• I have an two outfits close to the second one to the left and the last on the right. ^^

Lolita (Gothic, sweet, punk and more)

• A famous trend that’s popular amongst girls (including me) is lolita fashion. Dressing up as maids or little dresses with frills and bows. You can mash it up with punk accessories or lace it up for a gothic sheek look.

• This fashion raged from the Rocco era, where young prostitutes as old as 8 walked around in their cutest.

• Now, the style is adopted without the haughty actions. Basically, the style is for a young and innocent (or not) look. There are many styles. A lot of people even created their own style. That’s the heart of lolita fashion!

• I have my own style, too. Twisted lolita, which includes modern, gothic and punk fashion to the proper lady style.

Cosplayers!

• Japan is hugely influenced with it’s cartoons, called “anime”. I love anime, too.

• People in Japan, the U.S.A, London, Korea and more dress up as these characters. They (and me too) are called cosplayers.

• >w< Yes, I dress up as anime characters. If you say it’s cuz I’m part Chinese, or a whatever…I’ll rip something off.

Designs born from Western influence

• To the left, you can spot some fashion statements that were taken from America and Europe influences.

• Give me the punky outfit…I dress like that all the time.

What do I like most about Japanese fashion?

• It’s wild and can be expressed any way. And there is no discrimination about your style.

• Plus, it’s pretty out there. @w@.
