Businesses of all sizes are realizingSocial Media is not going away.

Social media marketing is fast becoming acornerstone to anysuccessful marketingcampaign. Yousimply can't ignorethe power ofFaceBook (500Million users),Twitter (over 50Million Tweets/day),LinkedIn (over 60Million users).Internet usersworldwide spend over 110 BILLIONminutes on social networks & blogs. Socialmedia has definitely impacted the waycustomers do business and has allowedmany small businesses a new platform toshowcase their goods and services topotential new customers from across theworld!

ARE YOU TAKING ADVANTAGE OFSOCIAL MEDIA?

All industry sectors are now at the table… are you? Getting focused on socialmedia can be overwhelming. But unlikeany other type of marketing, socialmarketing is the only one that you can getpersonal and engage your audience in realtime...just as brick and mortar businessesdo every time someone walks throughtheir doors...but the social mediashowroom is full of millions of potentialcustomers from around the worldaccording to Ron Richardson, the CEO ofSocial Media Management Experts.Social networking is allowing the littleguys to compete with the big players inany niche market. In fact these smallbusinesses are not only competing, but alot of the times they are winning in theselarge markets. By allowing them to build arelationship with their customers andpotential customers, they are able to gaintheir trust and confidence, as well asbecoming a known and recognized expertin their niche market.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDINGSocial media is also allowing

businesses to gain customer confidenceby developing online relationshipsthrough LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter,YouTube, Flicker, Blogging, etc. CMBConsumer Pulse recently reportedcustomers are turning to Facebook andTwitter to gain more information aboutthe company, their customers, and theirproducts. Two key questions were askedof consumers:

1) Are you more likely to buy sincebecoming a fan/follower?

2) Are you more likely to recommendsince becoming a fan/follower?

The results were much stronger thanoriginally anticipated. So the questionremains are you and your businesstaking advantage of social media toadvance your companies goals andobjectives?

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIESYour Chamber of Commerce has taken

the initiative to help you find theanswers you need for your business. Thanks to CenturyLink we have beenable to host a series of technologyprograms this year; including twosessions on LinkedIn. FIGP Applications Available

The hugely popular façade improvement grants thathave been available through the Longview Main Street

Office for the last two years are available now for 2011. A key element to the design-planning component of a

revitalization effort is thereturn of business activity tothe commercial district indowntown Longview. Freshpaint, new awnings, orcomplete facaderehabilitation have beensigns that something positiveis happening. These first steps can be the spark to igniteinterest and spur new commercial excitement. The FaçadeImprovement Grant Program (FIGP) provides a catalystfor these first steps.

One Hundred Acres of Heritage Main Street providesmoney through this grant process to commercial property

owners or business owners (with property ownerapproval) to encourage restoration projects of buildingfacades and to enhance the building’s overall exteriorappearance. The grants are funded by the City of

Longview CommunityDevelopment usingCommunity DevelopmentBlock Grant money. The money is from federalfunds made possible throughthe U.S. Department ofHousing and Urban

Development (HUD). The Longview Main Street’s Façade Improvement Grant

Program application packet has been revised for 2011.Interested parties should call the Main Street Office duringregular business hours and request a time to meet withMain Street staff and to receive an application packet.
