As I write this, we still do not have the final count tally for the pres-idential election. While it appears Vice President Biden will win, we do need to see the numbers. That means that, we will have made history. Not only will we have carried the first woman to the vice presidency but the first woman of color. I heard news reports this morning that said what it shows to black and brown girls, that any-thing is achievable. How exciting for the nation to have a woman of

color in that office. Kamala Harris is truly a role model.

Disconcerting, however, are the accusations being made by President Trump and the Republican Party. These accusations are totally unfounded. Our election process is safe and secure, no matter what they want us to think. I had the chance to observe at election central at the Trade Center loca-tion. I was impressed with the security and professional that I observed. My friend who is counting at Greystone has told me how tight security is there. BattleBorn Progress, in their line discussion last night, were very clear that observers were allowed to view the process and both Democrats and Republicans were present. All this posturing just serves to undermine our Democracy. Appar-ently, even some Republicans are now jumping ship.

Well, thinking positive is important. By the time you read this, we should have President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris confirmed. Thank you to all who phoned, texted, walked and gave money. Every little bit that each of us did contributed to this victory. Keep Georgia in mind. There is every possibility that there will be run-offs in both Senate races. Wouldn’t it be cool if Georgia hands President Biden two Democratic Senators!

Take care and stay safe,

Kara Freeman

It's election season.

We are days away from the most important election of our lifetimes. The work that we all do to make sure that we don't wake up with regret on November 4th could not be more important. I think we can all remember where we were on election night in 2016 and the emotions that we felt. But now our chances are re-newed with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and I am doing everything I can to make sure they are in the White House come January 21st, 2021.

The past month of October has continued to highlight the stark differences between Joe Biden and Donald Trump from their performances in the debates to stories about how Donald Trump has evading paying taxes for years. It's become increasingly clear that Donald Trump is not looking out for hard-working Nevada families and is more interested in cultivating his own publicity. This sort of disinterest in the common good is emblematic of how Donald Trump sees the presidency. To him, it's simply about self-advancement. I am troubled by the reports that the Trump administration has funneled millions of dollars to Trump properties under the guise of governmental affairs. This is unacceptable.

Americans should not have to worry about their own president enriching themselves through presiden-tial actions, and I know that we can put that out of mind when we elect Joe Biden. We know Joe, but more importantly, Joe knows us. He understands that this goes beyond politics, we have to get our country back on track. He won't be a Democrat or Republican President, he will be an American Presi-dent, and that is exactly what we need.

Vice President Biden's character is far and away from the current occupant of the White House and he'll be able to work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents in order to get things done. After the divisive rhetoric and constant lies of the last four years, our nation needs to heal, and I truly believe that a Biden/Harris administration is the best and only way to move our country forward.

I proudly cast my vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as well as candidates that represent the values that I hold near and dear to my heart. If you haven't yet cast your ballot by either mailing it in or partic-ipating in early voting, I implore to choose hope over fear, truth over lies, and love over hate. We're in the battle for the soul of the nation and it's time to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

The United States Supreme Court

Misogyny

One huge political barrier to women gaining the top political office in a jurisdiction is the general notion that a woman is inferior to a man and should never seek to be a top lead-er. The Christian Bible, particularly the Old Testament which is also sacred to those of the Jewish faith, teaches that a woman must be subservient to her husband in a hierarchy that goes God, then Jesus, then the husband and then his wife.

I have long wondered why, if Jesus died to atone for the sins of the people, Eve’s “sin” of seeking knowledge was not also forgiven. But that certainly is not what the Church Fathers have taught! And, I assume, the more orthodox Rabbis, although I have no personal experience or knowledge of that.

I am afraid that too many women as well have been socialized, brain-washed and beaten into believing that we are not worthy to lead. And that is despite the abundant evidence to the contrary. We were even socialized by our early texts used to teach us to read, that we should be helpers and not initiators of action. I remember my own shock when I real-ized how much of that had seeped into my pores from the illustrations in my texts.

I believe and hope that when you read this our first woman vice-president, Kamala Harris, will have been at long-last voted into office along with our Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden. But it is deeply disturbing to me that it takes disgust of epic proportions with the criminal conspiracy that is the Trump administration and the Republican Sena-tors to allow that to come to pass!

I profoundly hope that modern women will learn how very capable of leadership we are from the legislatures and the Biden/Harris administration we have elected, to begin to dispel the anti-woman mythology with which we have, as a people, so long burdened ourselves! And that we learn to honor co-operative leadership and compassion and not just mindless power to harm others.

The mindless worship of the sick view of strength that is actually a virulent form of mental illness is an STD for which we desperately need a cure! Covid-19 is not the world’s only deadly pandemic!
