making churches) have a higher attendance and

Sanctuary Choir resumes

Wednesday, January 6,

2016 Now is the

time to join!!

Thank You... “Thank You” to everyone who volunteered at CCC during the month of December to assist in the Clothes Closet. This is a fantastic ministry but could not operate and do what they do without volunteers. Your work was certainly appreciated.

We will be mixing hot chocolate and assembling bags to distribute to the teachers in the Decatur City Schools. Lunch will be chili and will be arranged. Please come and bring someone.

Adult Breakfast Fellowship You are invited to fellowship with us on Saturday, January 2nd at 8:30 a.m. at Ryan’s in Decatur. Come, invite a Sunday School prospect, and enjoy breakfast with us. “Dutch Treat”

Tuesday, January 19—11:45 am Special Guest Speaker: Dr. Jeannie Payne

Director of Public Relations Opening 2017 in Decatur—

Cook’s Museum—Natural Science Bring your favorite covered dishes

and invite a friend to join us.

These classes are set for a predetermined number

of weeks, a 12-week study for example. They

tend to dive deeper into Bible study, doctrinal

study or studies of critical issues for the Chris-

tian.

4. Members are expected to attend a corporate

worship service each week. This is the time for

the people to gather for the preaching of the

Word and to worship the one true God together.

5. Members are expected to be involved in at

least one ministry or mission activity a year. The

church has clear expectations that members are

to be involved in those activities that cause them

to look beyond themselves and to care for the

physical, emotional and spiritual needs of others.

6. Members are expected to read and study the

Bible daily. Research has shown that daily per-

sonal Bible study is the clearest indicator that a

Christian is growing spiritually. Disciple-making

churches exhort, encourage and provide re-

sources for the members to be involved in daily

Bible study.

What do you think about these characteristics?

My hope is that you will study these carefully and

join me in incorporating these characteristics into

Southside Baptist Church in 2016.

Looking forward to a new year!

UPCOMING EVENTS: Easter Sunday—March 27, 2016 Homecoming Celebration—Sunday, April 24th

Welcome to 2016! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christ-

mas with your families! As much as I enjoyed

the break, I missed seeing your precious chil-

dren! I'm very much looking forward to get-

ting back to our regular schedule. Awana will

resume on January 7th. We have some special

nights coming up including "Hot Chocolate and Smores

Night". There are also a few surprises in store for the com-

ing weeks so you won't want to miss it!

Our Sunday evening schedule will resume on January 11th

at 5:00pm. We will kick off the new year with two new Bi-

ble studies during the 6:00pm hour. We will start with a

New Year's themed study based on Psalm 150:6. In these

lessons we will learn about the joy and excitement we can

find when live for God every day. The end of January the

children will start "Playing for God's Team". This is a foot-

ball themed Bible study that teaches about putting God first

in our lives. I think both of these are going to be excellent

studies for starting off 2015!

Believe it or not, Vacation Bible School will be here be-

fore we know it. June 8th - 12th our halls will be full with

children who need to hear that God loves them. Please

prayerfully consider where He might have you serve in VBS

this year.

Wishing you a blessed New Year,

Tanya

Awana resumes

Jan. 6th at 6 p.m. Come join the fun!

Men, our brotherhood breakfast will be Sunday, January 3rd at 8 a.m. By popular request, Ret. Judge David Breland will be our guest speaker. He was scheduled to be with us in November, but due to unexpected surgery, he had to decline. While serving in Juvenile Court, he changed the paths of many young people from wrong to right and they went on to live productive lives. Since retirement he has been busy working with civic organizations including over-seeing renovation of the Decatur Train Depot. It will be an honor to have David Breland as our guest.
