    Volume 2, Issue 5

Dickens Anniversary Kicks off in LondonCharles Dickens, considered by many to be the first great novel-

ist of the modern city and the age of mass culture, will be widely

celebrated throughout Great Britain in 2012, the 200th anniver-

sary of his birth (ALA, 1/12/12). For those of us who wont be

making it to London anytime soon to attend the Museum of Lon-

dons six-month-long exhibition, we can download the Dickens:

Dark London app, which is an interactive map that brings Dicken-

sian London to life. Sounds interesting...

    * Dont forget to check out the Library Research Tutorial now posted on the library blog!

Still not convinced Twittercan be used to assist you in your research?

Consider the agreement the Library of Congressand Twitterrecently

signed that will hand over every public Tweet ever sent, to the LOCs

repository of historical documents. As a result, researchers will be

able to look at the Twitterarchive as a complete set of data, which

they could then data-mine for interesting information.

This digital initiative views the Twitterlibrary as something historic in

itself and stems from the National Archives and Record Administra-

tions push for federal agencies to better archive their own social me-

dia postings and emails as potential government records.

Try following some Twitterfeeds of topics of interest to you. You

might be surprised by what you find out.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our new summer reading program this year. I hope everyone enjoyed their discussion

groups! Our books have created a little bit of buzz among students and staffplease consider donating those copies you no longer

want to the UHS Library so we can share some great books!

In addition to the UHS Librarys current subscription to NoodleTools, EasyBibis another citation

tool available to you. A free version is available on the web, and the UHS Library will soon have its

own subscription as well, offering some more of the advanced features to students and staff.

Use EasyBibfor managing all of your sources, maintaining virtual note cards, or creating your bibli-

ography page. You also have the option to search other public bibliographies created using

EasyBibto get ideas for your own research.

In addition to the web application, EasyBibnow also offers a free app for smartphones. Scan the

barcode of any book and have its citation created for you automatically in the format of your

choice (MLA, APA, Chicago, etc.). You could also use this app when walking around your favorite

bookstorescan the barcode of any book that interests you and maintain your to-be_read list in

    your phone for easy access!
