Acous c guitarist and songwriter Jacob Johnson returns to Spartanburg on Friday, De-cember 13, for a Christmas concert at Blues Boulevard Jazz Club. Johnson, whose aggressive style on the acous c guitar has led to tours with Australian guitarist Tommy Emmanuel, bassist Victor Wooten, and Tim Reynolds (of Dave Ma hews fame), has also received acclaim for his songwri ng abili es. In 2012 Johnson won the Nashville Connec-
on Heroes Salute Songwri ng Compe on for his song, “The Ferryboat Waltz”. The December 13th concert will open with a set of solo acous c music
from Johnson's new Christmas album, “Wild and Sweet”. This 11 track release contains holiday favor-ites ranging from tradi onal tunes such as “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” to modern classics like “The Christmas Song”. A stand-out track is “Silver Bells”, which features banjo virtuoso Charles Woods, a 3- me na onal banjo champion who has appeared on The Late Show with David Le er-man with Earl
Scruggs and Steve Mar n, trading licks with John-son. In the second and third sets, Jacob will be joined by bassist Mark Eshenbaugh and Atlanta drummer John Henry for funky improvisa onal versions of his own music, as well as covers rang-ing from Dean Mar n to Michael Jackson. Mu-sic begins at 9pm and there is a $5 cover charge.
