SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

T he apostles gathered together with

Jesus and reported all they had done

and taught. He said to them, “Come

away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest

a while.” People were coming and going in

great numbers, and they had no opportunity

even to eat. So they went off in the boat by

themselves to a deserted place. People saw

them leaving and many came to know about it.

They hastened there on foot from all the towns

and arrived at the place before them.

When he disembarked and saw the vast

crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them,

for they were like sheep without a shepherd;

and he began to teach them many things.

SACRAMENTS

Baptisms Baptisms for infants through 2nd grade are generally held during any of the weekend Masses (except during Advent and Lent.

Please call the office or go online to our web-site to fill out a baptism request form. A pre-paratory class is required for parents and god-parents. Classes are held on the third Saturday of the month at 10:00 am.

Parents of children in the third grade or older are asked to contact Beth Lujan in the Reli-gious Education Office.

Weddings

All weddings must be scheduled six months in advance. A marriage preparatory class (four sessions) is required. Contact the parish office to determine availability and to schedule your wedding.

OnFiRe is a great start to youth ministry for our high school teens!!

It takes place at 6 Flags Discovery Kingdom on Saturday, September 19, 2015 9am-9pm.

It’s a day for our youth filled with mass with the diocesan Bishops and 4,000 youth, and an all

you can eat lunch buffet, exclusive ride time for 2 hrs and a Christian concert in the evening!

I need to get a head count for all the teens in our parish who are interested in going, please

The price of entry into the event is $47, we are currently looking into transportation that

may increase the asking fee.

There are registration packets

available on our website, in the

narthex of our church, and in the parish office.

Please return completed packets, fee, and re-

quired certificates to Tricia Garcia.

Registration will close at the beginning of Sep-

tember as there will be a mandatory orienta-

tion/PGC class for parents and students, on Sat-

urday, September 12th from 4:00-6:00 pm, with

classes starting the following day.

K-8th grade Registration for

Religious Education (“Family Formation”) and sacramental preparation

for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist

is now OPEN.

This includes preparation for unbaptized children in the 3rd-8th grade

(Children’s Catechumenate).

NEW THIS YEAR

Registration WILL CLOSE on September 1, 2015 and students will

NOT be accepted into the program after this date.

Please note, the Diocese of Reno requires two years of formal

instruction for sacramental preparation.

Our first Family Formation class will held on Wednesday September 16th at 6:30pm in the

gym. If we have NOT received a copy of your child’s Baptism record previously, you are

REQUIRED to bring it to this first class meeting. Parent and child attendance at ALL Family

Formation sessions is required and families in sacramental preparation are expected at each

class meeting. Registration can be done online and calendars for the year can be downloaded

at www.stalbertreno.org.

Click on ‘Religious Education” and then “Family Formation” for the registration

“Launch Form”. You can also pick up a registration packet in the parish office. Summer

hours are 9-1pm.

Second grade students at SAINT ALBERT SCHOOL do NOT need to

register for the program.

EXISTENTIAL NULLITY WITH ALL THINGS BEING RELATIVE

W HO AM I? Or perhaps the question should be, “Am I?” There is no need to ask who you are for you are

nothing but a figment of my imagination, that is of course assuming my imagination isn’t just my imagi-

nation, yet then again it’s all relative, isn’t it. Perhaps I exist only in some dystopian reality such as de-

picted in the film The Matrix and I am nothing more than an energy source and what I see and feel and experience isn’t

real at all but rather merely what I imagine it to be.

All things being relative, what is real is only real because I believe it is real. There are no absolute truths, no mor-

al principles upon which I must feel obligated; neither can truth be determined by my mind and reason. Everything

that I see, feel, and experience, all that I know and conceive is relative to my perception of reality, to my frame of ref-

erence, to my point of view. What is of any value is subjective; it is what I perceive it to be. If reality fails to meet my

expectations or needs, all I have to do is take a pill, blink an eye, nod my head, or sneeze it into a new reality. After

all, it’s all relative.

In 1992 in the matter of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote that “at the heart of liber-

ty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe and of the mystery of human life.”

Imagine that! Not only is the U.S. Supreme Court a bevy of superior legal minds (relatively speaking, of course) but of

even greater import they are, at least in their own minds, extraordinarily gifted for their metaphysical acumen.

More recently, in the decision to Obergefell v. Hodges, Justice and self-aggrandizing metaphysicist Kennedy

doubled-down on his earlier endorsement of metaphysical relativism and squared it with identity politics by declaring

that “the Constitution promises liberty to all within its reach, a liberty that includes certain specific rights that allow

persons, within a lawful realm, to define and express their identity.” Apparently, without this extra-judicial constitu-

tional promise, our identities would be existentially undefined, unidentified, and null.

Now compare and contrast Potentate-for-life Kennedy’s unabashed adoration and sycophancy upon the altar of

relativism with what Pope Saint John Paul II wrote in his encyclical Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life):

“Freedom negates and destroys itself, and becomes a factor leading to the destruction of others, when it no longer

recognizes and respects its essential link with the truth. When freedom, out of a desire to emancipate itself from all

forms of tradition and authority, shuts out even the most obvious evidence of an objective and universal truth, which is

the foundation of personal and social life, then the person ends up by no longer taking as the sole and indisputable

point of reference for his own choices the truth about good and evil, but only his subjective and changeable opinion

or, indeed, his selfish interest and whim.”

Relativism, called the “dictatorship of relativism” by then newly elected Pope Benedict XVI, is undeniably anti-

thetical and incompatible with Christianity, and Justice Kennedy, who calls himself Catholic, should very well know

that. But then again, this isn’t real, is it?
